Pixel Art / Seeking some hard Cc. Sprites
« on: May 07, 2009, 01:00:46 pm »
I haven't posted here in a avery long time. For the past few months I've gotten back into pixel art and have improved on my own, but now I think it's time to tap into the vast knowledge the Pixelation members have. Please feel free to kill me with a ton of harsh constructive criticism, or even just criticism.. I'll just end up getting better.

 Lets do this! :yell:

First up:

Original

Edit
I made this blob guy, I decided to animate him too late and didnt use an animation templete of simple colors to get the movement right, thus resulting in a goofy-looking animation... not sure how to fix it. I've been having some doubts about how excally I'm supposed to AA the edges of a prite, if anyone is aware of some sort of tutorial that explains that, a link to it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi there, my name is Miguel, better known by an alias "Tayoko". I've recently decided to take up freelancing to further my skills, get a chance to work on exciting projects. I'm really pumped ready to go, so come hire me!

I've noticed the other artist here seem to lack a clean website to place their work. I can offer to create a website for those who need it for a price in the 700's[usd] with a 2-3 week turnaround. Let me know if you're interested.

Thanks all who have been able to vouch for me. It has been a pleasant experience to work with all of you.

« on: January 21, 2008, 05:32:39 am »
I really wanted to plunge into Iso/tactics style stuff so I did. I wanted also to make the look of it non-chibi, anyway. I'm having loads of trouble with the walk animation/perpective issues, a helping hand would be welcome.

« on: December 11, 2007, 08:16:45 pm »
I have always wanted one, and well, I didn't think I was capable of making one, but I just went ahead and tired anyway. And I'm fairly happy with my result, but I still need help. I'm stuck on the nose/lips. >:(

To be honest I dont know why i did it in black and white, I guess i'll just add the color once i'm done.  But yea, not to happy with the nose, and I cant seem to make the lips look good.

Pixel Art / Little samurai guy.. C/c
« on: December 06, 2007, 06:09:30 am »
I miss Pixels
SO! instead of moping around, I want to start learning again! its been about a year since I last pixeled And i can't wait to get slapped around by the pros again about how Pixel-blind I am. I started playing Ragnarok Online and well, I noticed all their playable and Npcs where all pixel art. So a few months passed and i decided to play around with Gravities Style of Pixel. I started out making Edits of player character classes and mixing them with monsters, MUHAHAH that was loads of fun. Then I went on to make headgears resembling monsters. Of course, I could only go so far... so i quit the game, and playing around in someone else's sandbox. I wanted to make my own stuff. But unfortunately I can't...I seems to completely suck at making super small stuff, without some kind of reference, or body structure. How can I fix this?  :yell: Alright anyway, here is some of my Gravity style emulation, my custom headgears. On the -right- you'll see the in-game monster, and on the
-left- my headgear. These are in chronological order.

Dark Lord Mask
Odium Mask
Orc Lord

This isn't my current problem, just something for you guys to look at. Right now i want to learn how to make tiny action packed sprites.
I was looking around for something to base my sprite of, and I found these.

Arn't they cute?  :( The Artist who made them is unknown, the I found them here
And this is where it begins, I want to make my own creations, 100% without any influence, without any models, just 100% from me.  :'( Well anyway, this is what I made:

< Old || New>

Gah, sorry for the white background.
1. Run: I tried to go for the whole ninja thing but, there is something wrong with it...but I can't point out what.. His hands? feet? It sucks? Idk and its driving me insane. I addressed the flashing jacket, and jittery hand movement. Aswell as the jumping belt buckle.
2. Kick: BIG Perspective Issue(soon to be worked on.)....I love the outcome, with the cool exaggerated foot, BUT the old problem persisted, I had to look at these Rock lee sprites. And also, the way his head looks from the side...its fugly.
3. Punch: BIG Perspective Issue(Being remade as we speak.)OMG I hate this animation, its so static...I can't think of a way to make his body move.  >:(  Even though I like the exaggerated fist, but still...it looks like crap. OMG, I just noticed his belt jumps! I'm such a newb.

What about the colors? I remember someone one advised me to use super bright colors for sprites, because it makes them pop from the game. But I know the 3 skin colors might need tweaking, but I just don't know how. So, now its time for you guys to lay down the law. I will do my best to understand your C/c and learn from it.

I love you gais.

Pixel Art / D.O.H. [NEW UPDATE 4]
« on: January 06, 2007, 02:43:27 am »
HA As you guys probability remember I was working on a base for my online top down RPG called Dawn Of Heroes, here is a lil summary of it:

Quote
The game’s name is Dawn of Heroes, which in fact should already give you an idea of the theme. It will be programmed on an engine called dream maker, better known as BYOND. It will be graphically similar to a top down/face on view of any common adventure/RP handheld game. The game takes place in the far future, a gloomy corrupt city. At this, in the beginning of the game you are an orphan who always liked the martial arts, and after leaving the care of the foster home you set out to a dojo to learn martial arts. This in term basically serves as a tutorial and an introduction to one of 3 skills, combat. Each player can learn 3 skills or a “power” aside from the first, combat; the other two are a branch of a mental state or a kinesis. There is a variety of which 2 to choose from and you get them by embarking on short story missions.

An example of this would be pyrokinesis, to acquire it the player goes into a story mission on becoming a fireman. On duty an accident happens where you find yourself being able to control fire later on. Of course the story has more depth in the game as this is merely an example. Some powers we may include are Electrokinesis, Geokinesis, Gyrokinesis, Hydrokinesis, Pyrokinesis, Biokinesis, Morphokinesis, and more, each with their own story. The story wraps around a corrupt government and a military general trying to get rid of “parahumen” (players). The game features a karma system where it allows to player to choose his own destiny and missions type. Weather good/evil players can enjoy plenty of boss battles and minigames. There is still a lot untold and you might want to try and ask me questions, at which I will do my best to answer them.

If any of you guys interested in helping just PM me.

For the past couple days I have been working on a base for the game, and here is my WIP

I started out with the one to the far  left and with the help my Aczidenz and Ryumaru I worked my way to the far right, IMO like about 10x better.

And there is an update of a guy in armor. The sword blended in too much so i changed it a bit...

Well here is wat i have so far, one of my first sprite animations:

and here it is Animated:

transforming from normal to Hevy. here is him running, I was kinda proud of this.

So far i am pretty proud of my work, i am aware that i need a color pallet change but i haven't got to that yet, right now am working on the side view which is giving me a good challenge. There is still alot of flaws thats why i posted about it  :P for the help. I was thinking about a color pallet for the city, but i wasn't sure if i HAVE to stick to one pallet for the entire city? Well i don't know help me out guys.

HA I remade wat I lost and found the old file so here it is, I need with this one so feel free to edit it.

I started a mockup for the game. I emulated the style of a couple diferent techniques and made it my own, please....post some C/c or an edit. I need the help  :-[

Added some stuff to the wall, post C/c Ideas, or comments plz.

Well I changed the pallet of the wall to this:

and now am working on an interface based on a windows media player skin.

Here is the title screen, made by one of my friends, its not pixel art but its still awesome. Dont bother to C/c it i know its flaws but it wont get Fixed.

Oh btw i worked my but off making this so please dont steal it, (c) all rights reserved, plus your a jack ass if you do....

General Discussion / Good'ol Animation
« on: January 05, 2007, 12:51:00 pm »
I recently started working on a base for an online game, and well when I got to the actual animation, I found myself lost not knowing procedure, I felt like i was in a dark room having to feeling my way around. At the end, looking ar some reference and getting some help from my two buddies Aczidenz and Ryumaru I got by, but I wasn't sure if i did it in an affective manner. Perhaps wat I am really asking is, Is there a set guideline for animation? Do you use the previous state for the next frame? Or do you re construct the entire sprite? Is feeling around until you get it right the "right" way? I would be more then happy with some linkage, but i really want to hear your past experiences and your techniques when animating.
