Pixel Art / Sketch/Shading help/c+c
« on: March 23, 2009, 10:29:12 pm »
:'( This is my first shot at a large scale, non-sprite formatted piece of pixel art. I tend to do decently with sprites.. However.
I have a big problem when I start working. I have a terrible sense for placing shading/light.

I'd like any form of possibly helping me to start off on the right foot with this piece of work. The lineart is sketchy on some parts, including the creature itself. I invision the light source coming down from the top left-hand corner.. So..

You might try to move it back on the head a little bit too. Just a thought, I haven't tried it in action yet.

Well, right off the bat your ear is a little awkwardly shaped. I'd draw up a representation if I had the time to, try to shrink the lobe of it (which is the bottom part) and shape it up a bit.

Try looking at some images for some ideas on how, try google, etc. ::)

<(Sorry to double post)

Tried to do some edits, I don't know how well I'm doing. I feel really sloppy experimenting with a new style like this, so any criticism you guys have could really help me. :(

If you watch the animation closely, when he's pulling the hammer towards him after he's put his foot down it looks more like it's a rope-- and the head of the hammer is a big metal cylinder. Tried to elaborate a little bit on what xhunterko said.

Take a hard look, I think you'll see it.

Mainly I need criticism on the shell on his tummy and MAJORLY the water on his head (Frills around the water I can work out on my own).

I don't want someone to tell me exactly what to do, because I'd really like to get in depth with this and do well. It's the first productive piece of work I've done in quite some time, and was my first attempt at blotch shading.

 ;D

I don't mean to be pushy, or impatient. But could anyone give me some advice pertaining to the water tile? Also perhaps some tips when trying to animate it?

Well, It's my first attempt at a water tile.. It's going to be placed over and over, as tiles generally are. Was hoping for some possible opinions?

-What can I do to make it more fluid like?

-Any pointers on animating it?

Thanks for all your help.
