Pixel Art / [WIP] Baseball Player
« on: September 20, 2009, 07:53:17 am »
Here's a lil something I knocked up and I'm basically looking for CC & any advice on making him look more realistic/detailed as opposed to cartoony even at the size it is, cheers.  :yell:

@Lizzrd - your comment helped alot

@Sinistral Erim - tried to bulk the shoulders up

::) Thanks JJ Naas. Like I said this in very early stages and I'm not really working to any sort of palette restrictions yet. I look to create a similar atmosphere with less colours once I'm happy and have filled the background. You're right about me giving the character some sort of personality and I laughed at the bouquet comment because it's true.

Pixel Art / [WIP] what could I do to improve this?

I'm someone who beleives there's always room for improvement. I'm just stumped as to how I'm to add a further sense of realism to the face.  ???

I think you'd benefit from making the washed out palette a little more vibrant in colour. Secondly, make those things you have drawn actually look like hands. Most importantly I think you should make the stalk look more like hair than string because the so called eggplant looks more of a purple tampon to me.

I don't see any resemblance to a potato as much as I see him as being a giant wasp's nest. I think now you've submitted it maybe you could add some insects & change his stance to prehaps hanging from a branch. Either that, or make him look more like this  :D

I took this onboard because I liked it. clean up the lines -> shade according to light source (if any) -> add minor detail such as facial expressions -> result

Everything but your characters head is facing to the front. Usually when facing frontwards your arms are placed by your sides and palms resting on your legs. Only the thumb and the bottom part of the fingers can be seen. The guys hands are still too large. Zoom into my edit and pick apart the arm positioning.  :D

Aha. I understand. I'm sure there are a few things I could touch up on but I'm happy you think that they're okay.

I think a redraw of the shirt is in order. I'm only suggesting this because to me it looks asif the skirt she has on is super tight and is pushing three giant rolls of fat upward. Also, to me the shape of her head and the size of her eyes makes her look like a space alien rather than a human girl so I think you should tweak the proportions. I added the smile because I believe expression is everything. I hope you take my input into consideration.
