General Discussion / Re: What got you into Pixel Art?
« on: October 26, 2006, 02:26:35 am »
One day I just wanted to make an icon...

And suddenly I was making more and more pixel art. I also love games, even more if they are 2D, so I guess it's natural.

General Discussion / Re: Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw?
« on: September 27, 2006, 04:43:07 pm »
I used to work with Freehand, then I tried Illustrator and while its true that the interface is similar to the one in all Adobe products (a plus for Photoshop users) I have to give my vote to CorelDRAW. Ever since I began working in my current workplace, where the main application we use is Corel I've become quite used to it's interface and to me it has the easiest to use keyboard shortcuts and everything is quite intuitive, didn't take long to learn and now, well, what can I say, I'm a Corel advocate.

For raster work, Photoshop is still king anyway, but I find Illustrator unnecesarily complex and counterintuitive.

This is just my opinion heh, as some people have pointed I suggest you try them all and find which one suits you better.

Just don't use sodipodi :P (Just kidding). Anyone ever tried any open source vector illustration apps? I believe there is one called Inkscape or something like that, never tried it though.

See you!

Oh and yeah, my bad, I tried reloading the page and the templates did appear. Pretty strange, 'cuz I had already cleaned temp files and all that, but anyway, yes, they are there indeed.

As for the article re-write, so far so good. I see this will be a HUUGE improvement over the current one. I think it's pretty comprehensive so far, but you could probably mention GraphicsGale too, as that application is quite popular and also features competent animation tools. And last but not least I think that even if it's common consensus that Photoshop + ImageReady is overkill you shouldn't forget to mention them, since many people use that to make their pixel art (including me heh). I'll be sure to keep and eye on the progress there, so any other additions I can come up with will be posted in this thread over here.

With our help Wikipedia (and thus, the world heh) will be a better place!

See ya all

Most definitely it needs us :(

God, that was awful, I can't believe I sat through it all. I'm open for contributions if anyone wants help with the rewrite.

However, it seems that the templates/tags aren't showing up, I wonder if they where removed by someone who felt they were out of place? I checked the page's history tab but it doesn't say anything about that.

At any rate, I'll probably come back later with some suggestions, I may not be the best spriter but I certainly can't do worse that that piece of crap :|

See ya.

General Discussion / Re: proper way to hold a pencil while drawing..
« on: September 26, 2006, 07:43:11 pm »
I didn't thought there was a "proper" way to hold a pencil or any artistic instrument for that matter...

Whatever floats your boat as they say. However, just for those curious I hold a pencil with three fingers and I feel pretty comfortable doing so.
I guess there's no proper way, to each his own.

Pixel Art / Re: Henriette
« on: September 26, 2006, 05:41:38 pm »
Hmm both of you kind of have a point there, I guess that when I upped the contrast the blush started to get too dark compared to the pale skin so it looks like a rash heh

At any rate I was aiming for something like the old Heidi anime, here's an image I googled:

I might beef this piece later and I'll be sure to try and soften the blushing a bit then.

Thanks for the comments guys

Pixel Art / Henriette
« on: September 26, 2006, 12:43:09 pm »
Hello guys (and girls).

I made this piece a short while ago and I thought it'd be good to share with you all. It's not for any particular purpose, I just made the line art and then tried various color palettes. At first I was looking for a soft, washed out, almost glowing look, but then I upped the contrast and I think I found a more interesting palette. What do you think? I'm not too sure I'm going to further work on this, but as always, any comments or crits are appreciated! Enjoy and be sure to let me know what you think.

See ya!

Pixel Art / Re: might as well post this

Hey this is pretty impressive! I can't say I have tried 1-bit animations ever but this looks kind of fun. Also, this is the first time I've heard of this Oric computer. And you say there's a pretty small scene for it. I know Google, Wikipedia and the whole 'net is our friend for these kind of topics, but some links would be appreciated heh.

Nice work ptoing!
