Merci, Senor Delgneith! ;D
I'm not using tiles for it because it is merely a backdrop for the opening cinematic sequence.

Sadly, some shallow progress (?) has been made.

Perspective isn't real. :watev: Watev indeed.

Everything really just feels too small to me. The cloud background seemed to be moving past much faster than it should be. The designs were pretty, but it was hard to get a good look at them with such a small screen and so many bullets to avoid. When I was ready to quit, the Escape key didn't close the game, which I didn't like. Thick dark outlines seemed unneeded to me. I wish the art direction leaned more toward the style of the title screen.

Not sure if this is the place to post this, but I have hi-res scans of the Odin Sphere (http://www.atlus.com/odinsphere/) art book if anyone wants it. :) It's going to be a beautiful game, reminds me of SD3 a lot.

I'd say it's an excellent improvement. :) The eyes look kind of like they are bulging out rather than glowing from deep inside the structure though.

Thanks Adarias, those are some good ways to reduce the colors :0, I'll incorporate (see: steal) them, albeit with my own little spin since I don't like some of the more petrolic hue shifts you tend to use. Just personal preference on that issue, I think you will understand.

you dither in such tight spaces that you are defining false forms instead of smoothing.
Actually, I was trying to define chainmail on the arms and legs. Guess that failed... maybe the space is just too small to do that? Nah, I'm sure there is a way. Hrm.

its just a start - still a ways to go.
Trying to skirt the line of rudeness here, but what the hell is that suppoused to mean? If you're going to say something like that, explain it. That's like dropping me off in the middle of the wilderness and telling me to find my way home. :-\

I'd say the one on the right is better design wise. Things I would change for starters: Up contrast a ton, darker outlines for the darkest parts, and remove the dotted lines separating the teeth from the rest of the structure. If you feel they need to be separated, separate them one at a time with solid outlines, perhaps with a lighter shade than the outmost shades. Make the rings around the spikes gold or silver or ebony.

When I think "macabre or horror" art I think of intricate interlacing patterns personally, and lots of darker, muted shades with bright flourishes of black and red and white.

Edit: Oh, and drop the white background unless this art is going to be displayed on solid white. Colors are relative.

I tried, really I did Helm. :-[ I can't stop clinging to my colors though. I found a way to eliminate or differentiate the blacks you spoke of at least.

The blue ghey strikes back! I started again, trying to focus more on forms for animation and less colors. A halting step forward or a dismal leap backward? :-\

A flame effect, probably to be used as a trail for a sword's swing. Feels like I'm on the right track but missing the point so to speak.

Wow, that's just excellent work on the dino, very nice. The rainbow scales are just great, I really like that. :3 My only nitpicks would be that the claws on the feet are not clearly seperated from the foot itself, and the back and beak areas as Presley has mentioned already.

And welcome to the board. :)

Okay, I made an edit.

I tried to more or less stick to your design, but I replaced the colors with much higher contrasting ones, added lots of crags and juts, and reworked the stubby legs into something a bit different. I didn't tweak this a lot, but I think you can see some things from it.

However, you may want to spice up your design some. I think maybe the arms should almost scrape the ground, and you should beef up the chest area to twice the size it is now. For example, here are some golem monsters from RO.
