Pixel Art / Re: Guess what? Game graphics! Wooooh!

I think conceptually the hair is very weak. Anime cliches galore: green hue, random spikes... the form looks better in the sketch than in the pixels, maybe you should add the shapes on the top of the head to your sprite and eliminate those smaller, messier ones. Actually, everything looks better in the concept. If the eyes are going to be so elongated, I would add some highlights to them. Your face highlights don't contrast with the main tone enough to even matter at under 8x viewing.

Your newest edit is an improvement indeed, it looks like a nice setup for an idle animation. Keep going.

Does this give off more of a night aura?

Started a walking animation, I'm not very happy with it yet.

I think on the grass you could benefit from either a highlight shade or a cast shadow shade to add some volume to it. Personally, I'm not a fan of that dirt 'texture', it just looks like some randomly placed lighter pixels.

Add crags and sharp edge highlights. It'll add texture.

I like the design a lot, it is simple but very memorable. From looking through your site I know that you work very well with other mediums, so I don't understand why you didn't carry over some of those techniques you have applied on those to your new pixel work. An example would be the hair in the concepts compared to the hair in the pixel work; it loses everything that made it lovely, save the nice color choices.

Your newest version is a vast improvement, though you lost some of the more striking colors, I would recommend lighter outlines on areas that are better lit (e.g. the thigh area, parts of the hair, the calf on the far leg) and using darker shades on the far leg to add volume, which is sort of going on at the moment but could probably use a bit more. Also, where is the other arm? Or is that going to be a separate piece or some such?

Oh, and welcome to the forum. :)

I really appreciate your feedback Faceless, especially the last comment about the need for purple hues. I should be able to adjust that rather easily, and it will add a lot of atmosphere.

I'm not too happy with the color scheme like this, but it is better to keep all the three important parts (hair, cape, and clothing) seperate and distinct, and I think this latest update does that a lot better than before.

Edit:
Oh, and here's the start of the next big part of the backdrop:

Typically an arm is two to three heads long and ends below the waist and a person's body is seven to eight heads tall.

@Fak: I'll add a moon. Light sources tend to get screwed in games anyway because of the moving characters.
@Faceless: Is this messy? I've decided I can't tell when it comes to these matters.
@Agent: Thank you. :)

I'm really concentrating on the main character at the moment because it'll be the sprite that is on the screen the most, obviously. I want a sort of night sky theme to her, but all the colors involved in that sort of blend and get all messy. Ideas and edits more than welcome.

It would have been much easier for you to make this a poll. :/ I like B better also, it is much warmer.

@Fak: Indeed. I just found a decent refrence for it though:

Dat's nice. :'(

Latest:

Start of the reflection of the sky that will be on the lake below. It will be run through some filters to mute it and make it blueish and will have some sort of ripple effect hopefully.

I'm also redoing the main character, she just wasn't well designed and didn't 'pop'. Try one:

@ben: Magic?
