General Discussion / Re: Tests on Color Theory?

I struggle with light and color, and never formally studied it, but I found this book to be a very helpful resource.

Looking good.  ;D

Thanks :)

Say, is there a way to remove or set the undo limitation?  I'd really like to be able to undo all the way to the opening of the file, if possible.
Sometimes I end up wanting to see how something looks and 50 clicks later, find I've gone on a bit too far.

Made a new tree:

I'm sure I'll still make changes and stuff, but it's pretty much done. (I hate pixeling leaves)

Gorgeous!  How many colors did you limit yourself to for the tree/leaves?

My first effort at using Pyxel Edit, and I'm starting to get the hang of it.  I'm going to have to scrap this, as I realized the tiles won't really fit the way I need them to, but what do you guys think?  The tiles on the right are variations of the middle and bottom type.

Great program, looking forward to tutorials, updates, and seeing the work of others here :)

Pixel Art / Re: Cave tiles for a puzzle/rpg game [C+C]

This may have been a style choice, and what you have may even be better, but have you considered making the cave wall tiles a little taller?

The character doesn't have to look as if she can fit through the door, it is stylized obviously, but maybe make something smaller or larger relative to the other.

Looks good though!!

Thanks! Do you mean tutorials for Pyxel Edit in particular or pixel art in general?

I'd like to see both, but I'm particularly interested in various tutorials for Pyxel Edit  :)

Hey guys,

I've been lurking for a bit, and decided it's about time I get busy on the game project I'd like to accomplish.
Looks like a great place to get inspiration and learn from a bunch of skilled artists!

Also,  "Welcome!" to all the other newbies.

General Discussion / Re: Sprite/Background Colour Pallet Choice
« on: September 14, 2013, 03:22:59 pm »
Do you have a recommendation for the scope of a palette?

In my case, I'm interested in duplicating an SNES sort of look..  but when sampling a screenshot of a specific game, I was surprised to find there were over 100 colors in that single screen!
Would you say that's overkill? Or perhaps just about right?

Maybe 64 colors for backgrounds and 64 for foreground sprites?

If you're still experimenting, I'd recommend you reserve a group of colors for backgrounds  (for example 0-127) and an other for sprites (128-255). This way, even if/when there happens to be duplicates, you can easily tweak the colors any time without affecting the other category.

That's a good idea.

Are you also implying the palette should be upward 256 colors?

You've got my support!

I'm a newbie, so if any of you other guys have some good tutorials or anything to work with, no matter how simple, I'd be thrilled to do them.
