1: it's too small
2: I don't have a tablet to help drawing the basics directly
3: I got bad eyesight, so hours picking dot-by-dot aren't a wise idea

1 and 3 can both be solved just by zooming in enough. MS Paint can go ten times, and most more advanced programs can go further. Number two doesn't make much sense either. Tablets are very useful but it's not impossible with a mouse. I personally use my mouse more than my tablet anyway.

It seems like you're making excuses, man. Don't be afraid to just dive into it. Nobody ever improved by holding back.

Hasn't changed much, I don't think. from the beginning, yeah, there has been great improvement, but I think that the recent changes have been very small jumps. Not that it's a bad thing, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to be a bit more adventurous, man.

I made a small edit (just the head). I'm really not as good as some of the other people around here, but I think that it still shows some possible improvements.

One of the things I didn't like was that the light source seemed to come directly from the side. It's probably a personal thing, but I tend to find that to be a bit boring (and unnatural, at least if he's outside). I shifted it up a bit more but kept it going in the same general direction.

I added more depth to your palette by upping the contrast significantly (it's actually a whole different palette, sorry). It could still be improved, but it was a quick job. I also tried to give the head more form to it, by making a shape out of the brow area and stuff. It seems very blobby as-is.

Another problem I had was that I didn't really know what was going on with the mouth area. Are those things tusks or what?

I'll get right into it, I guess.

I've recently been playing around with a new style for my platform sprites. I'm trying to keep things very simple and minimal and try to make something that seems unique. I have a bit of a concept behind the game idea (basically a parody of things with needless symbolism and false "depth") but for the most part I'm just playing with pixels here.

The entire palette will only use four colors, I think. The colors that you can see in the following images. The only expection to this rule is the reds in the blood, which are there for significance and stuff and are meant to stand out a little from the rest of the colors. Pretty much the whole thing will be set against that background color to keep with the minimal style I'm going for (although really it's not final).

First up we have the main character. Right now it's very simple and a straight sideview. I'm working on the animation. He doesn't have arms yet, I tend to animate the limbs separately. Any advice regading this approach? (for some reason i think it's a bad idea, but it's comfortable) Four frames.

Next is a puppy. Not much to say about him, so here he is. Two-frame animation. Not too happy with it.

Lastly (for now), we have the carpenter king. I'm pretty proud of this one actually but I know that you guys here will be able to help me improve this.
