Pixel Art / [WIP] Character Half body
« on: December 10, 2009, 12:32:31 pm »

Am undecided on a colour scheme though I'm sure I want green eyes. Am currently leaning to a medium/dark purple for the hair.

Done on Pchat(Meaning no line tools, so this is all freehand) with some help from a friend and cleaned up on ms paint by none other than me, could i get both cnc on the technical errors in the lineart and colour scheme suggestions please, any suggestions on wardrobe would also be appreciated.

N.B. She is meant to be very thin, so unless it's a proportional issue I'd like her to stay that way.

She's also a little slutty, hence the costume :)

TIA
Cheers

Honestly, I prefer the old sheild, it looks more pearlescent.

About the darker scheme you used on the face; I think you might've gone a little too dark, you could try curving it more towards purples to keep it from looking dull.

Something along the lines of those ^, may work.

I think that you would get a better effect by having less dithering. ATM it seems very messy, maybe try reducing it to flat blocks of colour then dithering in between the shades? If you want highlights, try stretching the white and yellows to just before the center of the tree to give it a more sperical shading pattern, that's not to say that the whole half of the tree should be lighter, just certain sections. Though IMHO an anti aliased rough-zig-zag'd line would be better than dithering for a treetop like that, It'd help with the leaf effect(Though this depends on what sccale wour working on, larger scale would fit tthe kind of dithering your using but if it's a smaller tree, say 2m tall then you'd need more leaf definition). Also, you may want to try a more irregular shape?

@Yeti:
I'll attempt to fix all the issues, though Diadora's hair will probably need further work after further cnc because no matter what I do it doesn't look right to me let-alone anyone else :)
Thanks for taking the time to comment and it's always nice to see a fimiliar face in a new place :)

Pixel Art / re-VAMP [Mainly Fire-emblem portrait sprites]

OK, Fire emblem 'mug-shots' are my style of choice, and most of the portraits I've posted here are GBA versions of non-gba Fire emblem games, I do sprite original characters too, like Jerrike, though at the moment I am involved in a Fire Emblem: 4 Project(Hence the fe4 mugs) and Have an interest in spriting the Fire emblem 9-10 chatacters in the GBA style. (Most of mugs are just in the Fire emblem style and are custom though some contain spliced parts[I don't really make a habit of splicing, at least not lately]

TBH, that sin't really in the style of fire-emblem portraits. SO all of my critique will be pertaining to how you can improve the sprite in the 'fire emblem' style.
The hair lacks the suggestion of strands in its' shading, something common in Fire Emblem mugs, the hair highlights don't match the light source, nor does the neck.
The shoulderpad trim is pixely and messy, try smoothing it out.
The chin needs a more defined line.
The cloth shading looks chunky and the colours are extremely saturated.
