Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Gameboy-style
« on: December 15, 2006, 05:58:49 pm »
I'm kinda suprised at the amount of tits and ass in the cutscenes, especially for art made by a woman. I don't think it'd be practical for a ninjagirl to run around in a supertight sting thing. What if she falls on her ass as she fights? Splinters!! I'd give her pants even if it would reduce the 'sexy' aspect somewhat. A girl ninja can be sexy in other ways than in fully exposing her rear.

Does she look like an anime character?

I strongly second tremulant's call for aa on jaggies, like for example the scabbard in the second 'scene.

But how can a female hero appeal to the crowd when she's wearing pants? She obviously knows what sells well  :-*

I'm not sure if this is valid "critism" however when I compare that last cut scene image to the previous one, I must say it appeals to me a lot more when the hair is just "pitch black" instead of entirely shaded;

I'm not sure what it is, I'd probably say the fact that the hair on cut scene number 1 sort of suffers from a play-dough/tentacle esque effect, where it doesn't really feel like "hair" to me,

on the newer one where it is all just one dark shade of grey, eventhough much simpler, it feels a lot better to me.

Hope I'm not just repeating what anyone said, and hope it helps you; keep up the good works :D

(p.s, she's wearing too much.)

Pixel Art / Sprite, help, sort, of
« on: December 15, 2006, 01:51:03 pm »

(ignore the first one, that one's just a year old sprite for comparison)

Now because it's the cool and hip thing to do, I decided to go on with colour reduction, because it's cool and hip; and personally I like the one with reduced colours, however then there are people who go "why make the sprite worse by applying a colour limit that's not even there?"

and it all got me very confused because neither really feels worse than the other;

some comments on if the colour reduction really did harm to the sprite would be nice, thanks.

What was your intention with this piece?

If you want the actual reason, this is actually a relatively old piece (don't hit me) I made for one of the boards that appeared after pixelation died, I forgot it's name; however it was sort of elitist;

If your art wasn't up to a certain "quality" a.k.a "hurts to look at" it would get  "swamped" which means I got placed in "the swamp" which generaly meant the mods didn't find you skilled enough;

With an "elitist" (there were good reasons behind it, really.) approach to posters like that, It was obvious I had to make a piece  that could survive the swamp, yet hurting to look at at the same time;

And it didn't get swamped, which means it was succesfull;

I just ran into it when browsing through my photobucket, and decided it was awesome enough to share with the people who hadn't seen it during it's days of glory.

Now to give this topic more meaning, here's something I've been working on that -could- actually use c&c

The leftmost Frogatto (green guy) was my first sprite ever :'D I'm still amazed I managed to save that all these years.

a few words: I reduced most of them to 16 colours; the old guy has around 25 colours in the picture uploaded, however the one saved on my computer right now has 16 colours, so that's not really anything that requires mentioning anymore.

Critism should only be about the 5 guys on top, because obviously the bottom two rows aren't sprites I plan to uhh. . "fix"

Hopefully this makes my topic more meaningfull

That would be a good idea perhaps, but, what if the random flashes had really small text in them?

I guess it's true that sarcasm doesn't work on the internet, sorry.  :-*

Why did you have to post it with this horrible animation and colours?

Try to stay constructive please, obviously I have an underlying message in my piece that things can "hurt to look at" and "hurt to look at"

I am sorry if you can not appreciate the depth of my piece.

I would say that the second frame is working against you... instead of having him be in the exact pose as the first frame, maybe make the arms be at a 45 degree angle, between the pose of the first and last frame...  The definition from the first frame is definitely not carried over to the second frame

Good idea thanks.

but it'd definitely be in your best interest to re-shade and re-outline the gorilla in the last frame.

No need, I wrote "Gorilla" at the bottom to make it obvious what it is.

I've seen a non color cycling version of this before. Something done in MS Paint with the default colors. Can't remember who pixelled it originally.

Try Neoriceisgood.

General Discussion / Re: pixel god video in MS Paint!
« on: December 06, 2006, 09:40:02 pm »
Thank god I found this thread, I've been trying to explain to people that this was not a "pixel art god" all week, but they didn't get me at all.

"It's made with pixels right?"

And when you try to explain what pixel per pixel means, they just laugh. .  >:(

General Discussion / Re: What got you into Pixel Art?

Running into sprites, not managing to find what game they were from, realising that people could make them themselves, with paint.

Pretty much the entire realisation that it was possible to make such awesome things with pixels; I was always fascinated with pixel art back when I was still hogging my SNES all day.
