EDIT:

Mostly just anti-aliasing.

Oh, and your color count was ridiculous! 43 I think. I brought it down to 16....

Appears all he did was remove the banding in yours and changed each segment of 2 dark pixels to 1.
See here: http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=5556.msg66232#msg66232
You need to zoom to really see it in that example though :P In this forum you can click on an image to zoom it or ctrl+click it to unzoom it.

the technology is to add one dark gray pixel inside/outside?

aa... i have a problems with rounds. i read that isometric rounds are made by skewing the circle, but photoshop smoothes the edge! How can i make this without smoothing?

That's an edit of a sprite from Pokemon: Emerald.

I do.

Pretty sure there's a naked one floating around, which it looks like he used as a base.

I suggest you light the mask from the top rather than directly from the front. I think that would allow you to better convey volumes with shadows. Right now, it looks sort of oddly flat and smooth.

Those new masks look much better. But I'd love to see some more shading in the right two.
