Pixel Art / Re: King and castle in fantastic landscape animated

I'm sorry man, but I don't get your point ^^'
I would very much enjoy a further explanation! :)

I already added some leaves falling for the next update, and I'll slightly animate the cape's movement to the breeze in the few first frames.

I finally animated the waterfall!
It was incredibly tedious to do, as it is a looping 14 frames long animation. I seek advice regarding how the water hits the bottom, because it doesn't look very natural, maybe it sparkles too much, and tell me whatever seems weird or not right to you!

Thanks secretcat,
I fixed it, so hopefully it doesn't look like he is chopping his neck anymore. However, since the light source is coming from the top right corner, I don't think the sword's shadow should cast on his face. Maybe I didn't understand you clearly.

Pixel Art / Re: Looking for help with Leaves (sidescroller trees)

I'd say you don't have enough dark shades in the leaves, except for near the branches. As a result, your leaves look almost like a sphere, or like a very smooth object, because the gradient is smooth and you use light colors. That's why it looks blobby I believe. I would try to make the structure more erratic with more shades to give the feel of a non round shape, like in real trees.

In that sense, the left drawing is an improvement of the right one.

Hope it could somehow help you :)

Oh my, you're right!
Thanks for reminding me that, I had completely forgotten about that shadow. It happened because I worked with separate layers.. Now I hope the shadow is decent, and I added a small interaction with plants ^^ but I don't really know how to animate that dust, and I think i have already many special effects after the blade reaches down.. right?

MINOR EDIT:

Pixel Art / King and castle in fantastic landscape animated

Hi everyone,

I made this animation for the website Battle of the bits, for their latest Chiptune and Pixel art contest. This is intended to be sort of an "album cover" of the compo. http://battleofthebits.org/arena/Entry/The+birth+of+teh+WILDCHIP/24581/

Anyway, I am seeking for advice in terms of how to give the landscape more texture, to rework the palette (the cape probably won't stay green), to shade the cape, and to make the animation more fluid.

I plan to animate the waterfall and the cape moving with the wind.

Thanks a lot!

This is the landscape alone:
(Mark Ferrari's highland ruins have been a source of inspiration for this)

And the whole animation:
