You'll gain more from studying commercial RPG sprites. head over to http://tsgk.captainn.net/ and look up some RPG sprite sheets like FF, Secret of Mana, etc, and see how they do.

Also, you might want to refine the character a bit more. His head seems... flat (as in, he has no actual skull, the top of his head is flat.) I know it's supposed to be something of a cartoon, but the arms are more-than-comically short.

Good luck with the project.

Maybe it's just me but my arms go past my waist. Almost half way between my hips and knees.

I made a pretty quick edit.

if you have trouble with anatomy then stand up and mimic the pose. Some people buy those posing dolls but people and action figure (not dolls!) work the same.

Or you should study some good rpg first and or spriters like this :

http://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/8483.htm by adarias, see how the pose isn't squared like yours.

you should also study Terranigma, Sekien Denetsu 3, and Chrono Trigger poses.

reading each of these tutorials about 3 times over and over almost doubled my skill when i first started out.

Your progress is slow. Either you're past your mental prime, or you need to pay more attention when you read those tutorials Ryu linked to.

You should really read, Ryumaru tutorial, eventhough the first chapter might not help alot, read it all, I am also not a new at pixel art but, i have read it 3 or 4 times. And each time I understand a new thing.
