Basically, it would make it much easier for me if I could set the preview options so as to see the animation by sections of the customized grid instead of frame by frame while I'm trying to put together my sprites. Does that option even exist?

GraphicsGale doesn't have this feature, but an old program i have that's called CharacterMaker 1999 does, though
hope this helped
maybe check other programs too? in the Tools, Resources And Linkage thread there are a bunch of them

Not ideal, but you can export as combined imaged and import again as needed.

Thanks, that cleared it up. Was kinda expecting that...too bad.

Is the Character Maker 1999 you mentioned a free program? Tried to google it, but all pages look kinda fishy (might be because of its age?) and I'd rather pay for it then have some infested/pirated version of it. Could you hook me up with a reliable link if possible?

aseprite can also convert between frames and grid/matrix more or less on the fly, and i can generally recommend it
