here's what you do. You index the palette so it's the colors you'll use. Save this palette. Then you go back to rgb colors, and rotate freely in photoshop or something. When satisfied with new positioning, reapply the saved palette so it goes back to the limited amount of colors and you don't get any silly 3002342356 shades of a single color because you rotated. If you're using a sensible amount of colors (say, 16), any aa photoshop drops down through the indexing process will be really easy to manipulate if you don't like it.
