... it took me more than 20 mins with mouse =( ...
If you're dismayed by taking 20 minutes to make a base for a sprite, you need to develop some patience.  Especially when just starting, pixel art (or any art at all for that matter) takes a while to get right.  Once you're more adept, things start to go more quickly, but you will still need patience, as art usually does not come quickly.  Good luck with your sprite, hope to see you stick around!

Hehe, I read the previous two posts in this thread as:

Also just noticed, Helm is a very handsome guy, and I feel very inclined to give all my money to him. Amongst other things.
hmmm I bet we could fix that, probably just need to copy-paste a bit of code into the reply.template.php or something...we'll look into it!

Why would we want to fix Helm being a handsome guy?  And how would code change that?  Or are we all being duped and Helm is a bot? :P

Wow, your sprites have improved a lot very quickly.  Nice job there!  However, I must say that your latest one does not look all that shiny.  Smooth yes, but shiny no.  To get shiny, try putting highlights and darks right next to each other to simulate reflection of things in the environment.

Unoriginal poses are nothing new; a lot of people paint/sculpt/sketch/pixel people in the same pose over and over again.  It's only bad if you get caught in a rut and get to where you can't draw people in any pose but the one you're used to.  The sketch looks decent; clean it up, give it some color and shading, and let us give you some crits!

This does not look anywhere near done.  Certainly not within "add color and hair" range of being done.  To be perfectly honest, I'd recommend starting over.  Maybe even backing up to before where you started and doing some face studies on paper, since you don't seem to have a very good grasp of facial structure.  She has no ears, the sides of her head are lumpy, her nose is unnaturally pointed, her eyes are crooked and too far apart, her head looks like her face is placed too far up on it...  There is more error than realisticness in this piece.  I would balance out my harsh-sounding criticism with things you've done well, but I can't find any.  I don't mean to discourage you, quite the opposite.  I can tell you want to do art, but you need to learn fundamentals first.  You can't start running before you learn to walk.  Good luck, and I hope to see some good stuff from you in the future!

I'll agree with the Kenneth Fejer recommendation; he has about the cheeriest mockups I've seen.  He also has a style that is similar to what you seem to be aiming for.  Simple flat-shaded graphics, bright colors, cheery atmosphere, etc.  However, he does not use colors that are uncomfortable to look at.  Nor do his forms look like paper cut-outs pasted onto tiles.  He creates volume and form with a very clean, simple style.  Good luck with your game, and I hope to see some improvement soon!

What what?  Snake has an avatar?  *checks to make sure the world hasn't ended*  *reads Forum Move thread and realizes that it was in fact called for*  *thinks about making a new avatar for himself*  *stops emoting*

There's too much AA on parts of it; the spikes and her hair look very blurry due to over-use of the technique.  Quick tip: putting AA on the tip of something usually accomplishes nothing but blurring.  AA-ing 45 degree lines is usually about as effective.

The piece looks pretty good, but the AA is mostly un-necessary and only serves to blur.  Good luck finishing!

P.S. You might want to change your signature:

... humans can only make sounds associated with the alphabet ...
This statement is only vaguely true.  German has several more vowels than English, and Chinese has a bunch more consonants (some of which I have trouble pronouncing, but that's a matter of practice).  There are lots of sounds that the English alphabet does not cover, and I'm sure there are other sounds that aren't covered in any alphabet.  The human voice is an amazing instrument, and can produce more sounds than you may think ;)
