Awesomeness! I totally dig the thick black lines in the original version.. oh well. About the clouds below... I'd like to see more conformity in the shadows they cast to have a better idea of how far from the ground they are. What's the main light source? If the ship is flying on top of the clouds, shouldn't it be bathing in sunlight? Seems still rather cloudy on top of this layer of clouds.. Still, it looks great as it is.

Hmm.. the ear looks a bit misplaced and small, and there's indeed something funny about the hair. If you shaved all the hair away, the skull underneath would seem quite large. My suggestion: establish the shape and general shading of the skull first, then add hair.

The lack of antennas on the left side of the building makes the pic seem as if it consisted of two totally separate elements. Also, the antennas seem to be lined up against the right edge of the building. That may not be the idea but that's the impression I get.

Hawk, people want to know whether the "harsh critique" you've given them stems from personal experience.

I'd like to see how this works in relation to the rest of the graphics in the game.

I love the atmosphere in this piece. :)

Just throwing random ideas.. a big pool could reflect the clouds in the sky, unless it's such a heavy rain that the sky is totally monochromatic.. or you could make a scene where raining has ended and the scene has lightened up a bit and the puddle reflects the ske where clouds are parting and revealing some blue sky.

The bg situation is pretty similar to the one in this other recent thread.

It's nearly impossible to give c/c about colouring before the background colours are established and the light sources are decided. Whether it's a day or a night scene makes all the difference. The hand holding the match is very long compared to the other hand.

I really like the way this is turning out. I did an edit based on the earlier version. Then pixelation went all screwy and I couldn't post it, and now it looks like you've taken it in a completely different direction. :P Thought I'd post it anyway.

Basically, I removed the dithering. I feel that, generally, pieces done in this style are better suited to flat shading, as it helps retain the, I dunno, cartoony feel or something. I didn't change much, other than that, as far as I remember.

Honestly, I liked it a little better when it was a bit more simplistic, but it looks like you've decided to go in a slightly less cartoony direction, so my edit may be a bit useless at this point :P. If nothing else, though, I'd check out the AA and maybe smooth your version out just a bit. You have the proper colours, so you won't even have to mess with your palette. Regardless, I'm liking how it's coming along. Nice work ;D

Ah, I like the dither-smoothed tree branches and sun.The palette looks even more atmospheric in this edit, I like the simplified look of this. The only thing that bothers me is that the face that the face seems a bit transparent, as it's a big area of the same colour that the sky is. Good edit, thanks. :)

Dizamn, JJ. That stuff is nice. Do you have some more digital art in your treasure chest?

Thanks. :) Some personal work of mine can be seen on my Da gallery, I'm working on to set up a new online portfolio for my professional work.

A pic I made a year ago for fun. I was playing a Warhammer Fantasy adventure with my friends at the time. Shadows over Bögenhaven, Death on Reik..
