Pixel Art / Re: pixel landscape

It looks so much like a resized and blurry picture. Everything is banded, and it seems more attention was paid to making it blurry than to actually address the forms.

The furthest leaf's placement is inconsistent with the rest of the design. It appears to be 3x or 4x as far away from the base of the mountain as the rest of the leaves. To be consistent it would be in there so deep, it'd be just about completely obscured by the mountain itself.

I don't like how his head turns in the ice effect. It seems like he is unable to control it.  Much better was the fire effect animation's head. In miming the action at my keyboard I notice perhaps it is natural to look in the direction of your hand at the end, but the movement of the head on the neck is so quick, it doesn't need any frames in between.

It is much easier to edit images posted unmagnified. The forum has a built-in zoom function.

I made an edit, but the proportions got a bit skewed when I tried resizing it. I fixed it up a bit manually, but it is not exactly the same.

I changed it from 15 colors to 8. I didn't change the silhouette (on purpose, anyway), but that could also benefit from some attention.
Basically your big issue is banding (those strips of colors lined up next to each other in the shading.) And you're shading as if these are 2d pieces of paper rather than actual forms with heads and noses and protrusions. Just think about what would block the light from hitting what.

I think often experience helps people to get a more realistic image of themselves.

For me, for instance, when I was 13-17 I felt like I was a great artist and would even call myself an 'artist.' But with age comes experience, and as you get better you learn that there is even farther to go. Though you become better than you've ever been, your vision of yourself might be the worst its ever been, but realistic for once.

One idea could be to have some certain marks on the ground that indicate a gate is there. Like three lines perpendicular to the gate or two dots or something.. or even an arrow.

Around here Helm is like a God and it is natural to want to (unconsciously) attribute some fortuitous events to him. Like saying "Praise be to Jesus"
Thankyou Helm, my Lord and Savior. Amen.

About the run cycle: while I'm generally not in favor of head-turns and those are often used to fix the 'static-head disease,' I think some things could be done with it. In the few frames of the reference it seems at some stages of the run cycle his head has a tendency to incline toward the ground. Whether that's just because he's looking at something, idk, but in any case some head bobbing/ angle changing might help the run cycle.
If it's too difficult or makes it look worse, don't worry about it.

Also, there's some banding on his arm.

I think you should just do a lot of measuring. I messed with it for a few minutes and got to this stage. And it still isn't there.

Currently the size you've been working with makes it difficult for you to pay as much attention to the pixel level as might be necessary. It would take a lot of work.
http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11299 is a tutorial by Cure that can help explain pixel level detail.

Hi. I shrunk it down a bit to make an edit, just because it is easier to work with.

I'm not great with this sort of thing, but I tried to make the colors less saturated and establish some depth. I felt water would have some reflections and in general shapes could be defined more with shading.

The details can come after you have a nice structural underpinning. And objects would become less detailed as they recede into the distance.
