The arms and hips aren't moving with the legs!

Bear in mind that this is entirely freeballing based on my personal design preferences.

I'm thinking maybe something kind of like a Golf Cap http://ep.yimg.com/ay/yhst-17159114447480/cleveland-golf-driver-cap-2.jpg
a pair of thick work gloves  http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MzI1WDM2OQ==/z/I~8AAOSw91NTrn57/$_1.JPG?set_id=8800005007
And a pair of boots, to give the character kind of a working-man aesthetic.

Not much to critique here with it blown up like this besides how the numbers still aren't pixelart when they can be.

I'd say maybe simplify the ones you want us to focus on into silhouettes, keep the ones closest simple. Removing them entirely leaves big empty space in the picture, doesn't look right that way.

More picture reference.  I used this image from Tumblr: http://doctoromalley.tumblr.com/post/148777606793/anatoref-more-how-to-draw-manga-vol-4 (First picture, bottom middle), along with, "Man raising arm," references on Google, mostly for the sake of stomach shading.

I'm pleased with it, but for some reason the clothed version looks a bit feminine and I don't know if that's just me.
It's not, he's got pretty wide hips here. Gives him kind of a distinctly womanly appearance.

General Discussion / Re: New to Pixel Art. Tips?

Two things: start with non-pixel art first, then move in to pixels. Don't make my mistake! The Andrew Loomis guides are a great primer and should have you up to speed fairly fast as you move through them.

As for various tips and tricks for pixelart, there's a pretty comprehensive list of info and tidbits here: http://pixelation.org/index.php?topic=19594.0

Updated w/ Dreadnaught's changes, and added dithering and spear point.

Looking good, the axe head needs refinement still however. Looks waaay too simplistically drawn now compared to the rest of the sprite

Reduce how many frames there are between the draw and the slice. For the most force you want a motion trail straight from scabbard-holding frame to sword-extended frame with as little in between as looks good.

Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Table module
« on: August 16, 2016, 08:28:11 pm »
Hello everyone  :)

Here I post my first attempt. My idea is to create a small Inn interior with several elements. I want to keep it fantasy style.
For this attempt I tried to don't follow a tutorial or copy any reference. I just followed my memory and my usual approach when working. I post the steps I followed. Obviously I'm here to receive critiques and with a couple of questions:
  • Do you find the table with too much noise?
  • Do understand well what kind of table is?
  • Which version do you prefer? With or without shadows?
  • Do you think it is too monotone?

I used PyxelEdit and Krita (for the 3 steps image).

Thanks in advance  ;)

Personally I'm of the opposite opinion, it looks plenty readable to me and Should contrast well on most backgrounds. Variant 3 with the shadows looks solid.

Left leg is thicker than right leg. Try to fix that. Before you use designdoll more try to base your work more off photos, designdoll can't achieve the same level and is best used more as a quick visual aid rather than a full reference if you can find better material through google.

Tweaked it a bit, though it's minor.  I cleaned up the shading a bit, made the leg size consistent, and toyed with the standing leg.

As for the DesignDoll, I'll try to look at some real photos, but I'm still going to be using it for the more out there poses, such as this one. I've got a sort of "series" of things I want to try touching on, and part of if is communicating a certain look that I feel won't be super common.

This pose was made with the intent of portraying a far weaker thing that what I've been doing.  Shading, shape, and overall look is the most important, and the black with gray outlines is the main look I plan on going with for the aforementioned series, so I want that to look best, but I still want to see how it goes with other colors.
Aye. Like I said, when you can.
If you want a good recommendation, investing in a camera and a few friends willing to pose for you goes a long way.
