[WIP] The Legend of Zelda: I dunno yet... [EDIT1]

on: January 05, 2007, 07:28:17 pm
Here's the start for the title sreen of a Zelda game I want to make with Game Maker...no comment on that....rather comment this:
Latest===>
I'd like to know what you think. It's off course very W.I.P, but the first part of the sky is done, and the text is done.

Fantastic so far - The logo is looking great, very nice take on it.
The overall idea and portrait seem fine, perhaps make the forehead (or head size) a little larger.

Thanks, glad you like it. I agree on the head, I always place the eyes far too high on portraits,
I never seem to learn....

When are these smilies gonna be turned back to normal by the way? Halloween is kind of....over...

The logo and the background looks awesome.  :y:

There some things going on with links face though. The nose looks a little weird and he's got a massive underbite. His brows are furrowed, but the forehead doesn't follow.
Here's a quick and kinda sloppish edit. Hopefully it will show what I mean. Hope it helps.

What version of Link are you basing it on? Twilight Princess?

Thanks for the edit. I think I see what you mean, this solves it?

I think you still need to cut back the bridge of the nose, forehead, and the bottom lip so that it has a bit sharper of a line (when i think of TLoZ characters I always think of crisp silhouettes), as well as thinning out the mouth (for now)

Looking good so far, really want to see the water tornado detailed.

Here's the next update, and it should fix the face issues, I looked further into Luzeke's edit and came up with this:

Keep the c&c coming

Everything so far is sexy :D
I LOVE your face shading, it's really awesome.
I'm assuming you're gonna get rid of the black lines, so I'll wait and see.

Great writing and composition. Are his ears a bit smallish. i don't know. Cant wait to see how you do the tornado thing.

Hmm, at the moment his face seems really weird to me. It's most probably because you're shading an anime-styled/shaped head with 'realistic' shading, rather than cel or whatever. I just don't think it works. Personally i like this shading style, so what i'd change is the shape of the face, give him a more realistic nose and an eye which looks less pasted on (eye also seems a bit high). The ear also seems too high and small atm.

I love the text and the idea so far. Good luck!

Don't get too ahead of yourself; Save the dithering for the very end.
The eye is too high up and the ear is too small.

Keep going 'cause it's looking good.

Gathered courage to continue this again:

Finished the hat, lowerd his eyes, upped the contrast.

I personally think you should move away from the generic anime view on this, pointy noses really don't make too much sense imo. Id take on more of what Moonsoon has illustrated into your version, the exposure to the chin is really vital to give it more shape and overall depth, though he's altered the palette somewhat you should still of tried to make the most of your shades in ragard to AAing, theres some evidence of aaing here so my advice would be to use as many shades as necissery as to get from the dark brown to the light peach you have to travel to 3 shades, why not make the most of them.

This is looking great, I don't see the point in so much dithering though, a cleaner look would be much nicer.

keep it up..
I've not got anything interesting to type here..

Honestly, Terley, I never modified the palette. I promise. I used the palette from http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/9796/zeldascreencolourconceplk7.gif

Opacus, I prefer the colors of the previous edit; these new ones have far too much contrast. (Unless you plan on adding some buffer shades, I would advise you stay clear of low color count / high contrast. It will just make the picture grainy when attempting to dither.)

as they said, use your older colors, there's really too much contrast now. I also suggest ditching the dithering, especially if you're going for the more anime look. It makes it look rather grainy and unclean, whereas a more basic and simple shading would look great (just look at Monsoon's edit).
