Pixel Art / Re: [C+C] Mock up for a top down RPG

If you want it to be a dark and moody room, you need to ask yourself "where is the light coming from?" Right now, there's no light source - there's just light everywhere, so the room feels bright. Pick a light source, and then do your best to add shadows where they would belong. Here's a horrible example for you, hahah:

This is going to be a tough lighting situation to handle, though. Good luck! =)

I would stick to pencil and paper for now. The basic construction on the tree and armour are completely off, so it'd be a waste to spend ten hours doing pixel level detail on this. You should just practice drawing normally.

The way he's holding the rifle feels a little unnatural. Wouldn't you usually put your hand -under- what you're carrying? Not many people carry things by palming them from the top...
It's also a little unclear what exactly his pose is supposed to convey. Like someone else said, it kind of looks like he's getting ready to hoist a flag. If he's supposed to be stealthy, I don't think he'd hold his gun six feet over his head.

[qutoe]It just adds an overall level of grainyness without any further or intented purpose. [/quote]
Looks like a smooth sandstone to me. It's a texture, for sure. Whether or not it's the one he was going for, we don't know.

Cool work! I like all of them, except for the butcher. He's giving me strong "fake anime" vibes, like those horrible shows from the early 00's. He's well drawn, he's just giving me flashbacks to terrible things.

It's obvious you're comfortable drawing, though. All your characters are very lively and natural looking. Good work. =D

The guy on the bottom left is a little hard to read in the face and arm area. Besides that, this is really awesome. I like the idea and the execution. =)

I actually liked your old color scheme. The new one is very purple! Like they're underwater, or in a dark cave.

Let me answer your question with another question. I just finished a self portrait. How do you think I did?

Snark aside, there's not much to critique when your person is five pixels tall. It's literally a stick figure. I'm looking forward to seeing your double sized one so we'll actually have something to critique. ;)

Yar, I do like some of the colors, Mathias, but I think you flattened out the picture a little, which is the main reason I prefer Slym's, still. All his forms look good and chunky, even if they're not totally realistic looking, and there's a good sense of depth because of the darkness under the trees and such.
Your water does look more water-y, but I kind of love Slym's water for some reason. It feels so heavy, like I could reach in and scoop it up like jello or something. That might not have been what he was going for, so he might actually prefer your edit, but I'm digging his water, hahah!

Also, I've never liked the fake paper textures art programs have. I don't know why! I'd probably like yours a good deal more if you removed that, heheh.
Anyway, cool edit, and good on you for even bothering to do it. Most people can't be arsed to spend so much effort trying to help other members, so thanks for being a credit to the force, hahah!

We need some more color and light action goin' on in here.
I respectfully but firmly disagree!
I love Slym's palette here. Yours is appealing, too, but a little too rainbow-y for my tastes.
