If I may say something... I don't think we should be trying to CHANGE the style, only refine it, what OP has is fine I think.

which is why I mentioned that the only suggestions I'm sticking with is how to shade the shorts and block out the hands. the rest is all pointlessly cosmetic.

A different take,

Yeah, don't be looking at mine for originality either, since it's too girly and kind of... boring in terms of design, but my suggestion on the shorts stay, as does the hands. Her hands are too... noodly? I'm not sure how else to describe it. Take from the edit what you will, and what you won't.

It was good to me until the outline. I think it should be outline-less, or at least having a much thinner outline.

GET STARTED ON THE LEAVES, MY FRIEND. <3

I'm an Accident. I am your friend.   :-*

Here's what's going on. If one wants to pixel something believable, one must be aware of how it's actually-shaped.
As some posters above me have mentioned, even if it's obviously-stylised, it doesn't mean that you won't benefit from an anatomy study or two. Heads are not so round, eyes are not so big, we have knees, some barely lock 'em. We have elbows, and our skin creases. It heightens with cheekbones, it may sink with the actual cheek. Noses have nostrils, they're much more complicated than a wonky L. Bby, grab that pencil and draw your life away~

To me, it looks like you worked with each and every pixel. Perhaps used the line tool. That may be fine and dandy, but it's /not/ a good way to go about doing this if you're a newbie. When I began doing any form of graphic, be it pixel or PS'd, I would sketch out the basic shape, how the character looks like, and overall its feel. Most of my bodies are actually made out of random squiggles I jot down at first. The beautiful thing about the human eye is that it sees the 'lines between the lines' and leads you to thinking in different ways, different perspectives.

Okay, so, about your piece. Is he an old man, or a young man with a long, achromatic beard? He has no wrinkles, no fold, no distinction from a younger person. Why give him the Beard of Rasputin if he's not Rasputin himself?

I attempted to construct an old wizard the same way I suggested for you to.

Old men usually crouch. Their limbs are distinctly bony. I'm not... really good at describing much. But with resizing (no anti-alias, mind you), colouring, and fine-tuning, you can eventually get this:

It's POTION TIEM!

C: Welcome to Pixelation.

Hasn't it been such a long time?!?!?!/1/1/1!!?!!?!!!

Yeah, I was lost doing other things, getting ready for college, and everything. Anyway. I decided it would be at least courteous to finish this.
I decided to leave the hair shadeless, mostly because I cannot shade hair, even if my life depended on it.

As you can see, I made a lot of changes, mostly to the uniform. Gave her suspenders because, well, everyone loves a girl in suspenders! Changed the sleeves, added cute little bows, and overall made her outfit look more complete. Gave her socks, and a distinct nose. Everyone loves a bulbous nose. Arms in pockets cop-out ftw? I also made a palette change, which was just experimental and may not stay at all. Decided otherwise, it looked gross.

Wow didn't that sound pretty boring of me? I think I've grown up.  Must add database of smilies before it's too late.  :B  :hehe:  ^-^  :0#  :lala: :lala:... :lala:

Okay, now it's time to clarify. the one on the right was a step of progress for the one on the left. xD So, point blank, I pretty much hate it.

okay, now that I have that done and over with, I'd like to say that I cannot do hair-- therefore, I do not know how to progress. Can anyone help me with shading hair?

darkened the brown. centered the feet. made white gloves, but now I see that the arms are super-wonky. anyone want to help me out with that as well?

c: Thanks for everyone's help thus far.

yes, it was intentional. xD Sorry for not mentioning it earlier. I wanted to keep up with the blocky figure I had done before.

... that, and my sister is four years old.  :P

oyeah, I suppose I do.  :-*

I really like Victoire. I really do. she reminds me of my autistic sister, right down to the fro-like hair, the cute little mouth, and the large, empty eyes. c: so I re-pixelled her because I haven't pixelled in the longest time and didn't want to lose my touch.

... so, did I improve?

haha, yes, the current is on the left... I can't do hair. sue me.

[btw, it's not a doll. it's baseless, or whatever.]

EDIT: AS OF 2/09/10~!

why does the door's perspective look different from everything else?
... but I don't think I did it right either. xD

EDIT:

If you're going to give the guy a pen0r, why not give him nipples?    If we're going for anatomical correctness here, I see nothing wrong with adding them. And if simply because no one will see the nipples, and therefore that was why you omitted them... well, I'm pretty sure they're not going to see the pen0r either.  :-* I also made the woman's nipples shinier because... well. I'm not sure.  -subconscious perversion?-  ^-^

I fiddled with the woman's leg too, no worries.  :)
