I like the cartoony style of the original has a cool retro feel but his left leg is weird. Looks like he is about to take a step forward.

The angle is meant to be vertical because he's going to climb this kind of ladders:

Its not the vertical angle I meant its just directly from the side so yeah I assumed one of those ladders. the angle of the ladder runs doesnt match the angle of the ground (unless they are spikes) which would look odd to me if I was playing but maybe im being pedantic?
I just wonder have u considered angling the wall so it faces more toward the player so we can see clearly that it is a ladder. Animation might not need to change much if it was just a slight angle...

Dont be depressed that probably just means ur worn out from learning or frustrated at progress I dunno but just keep going,  if u want even leave that guy as he is do sone more characters, backgrounds, buildings etc and u will learn more and u can go back to him when u feel like it.
Just a suggestion that for inspiration watch game of thrones if u aren't already. Its  a crazy awesome medieval fantasy tv show not airing here in australia yet so I have to download I'm so hooked and I just want to draw every time I watch it if only I had more time...

I think its a good start mate. Imo, lose all black lines inside the shape and maybe even the one outside. with such limited size I dont think u can afford to ware pixels on black lines.

Yeah lol and when it has nothing to do it just follows u around like a dog. Could be kind of cute if it had some kind of subtle rudimentary ai to follow voice commands.as thats the closest thing he has to a friend down there he could start to talk to it as a way to introduce some story dialogue, but obviously its just a drone so it would reply "...".
Would be funny if deeper into the game it formed more personality and eventually started talking back to u lol a clear sign that the guy has lost it.

Anyway its so off-topic from the graphics sorry...

Fantastic tutorial! I agree with comments about taking it further with variations and details, and also starting out with different shapes instead of basic bricks but a great way to get stated.
I would like to see the tutorial extended.
As a beginner its hard to find decent tuts like this, so many baaad ones on google...

Looks good so far but animation is going spastic on my phone browser so can't comment further. I'm curious though, how will u communicate a ladder to the player at that angle? It seems directly side on so can u show an example tile? Or maybe u should angle the guy a bit unless u going for only ladders that has individual runs sticking out from the wall?

i don't think he's walking, i think he's doing the cancan :D
Try some reference and add some more frames? is he going to have a window on the side of his head? makes it a but hard to tell which way he is facing unless u come up with another way to differentiate.

Hey its a cool style. Something about his  face/head makes me want to be one of the bad guys though lol. Also his left (our right) hand moves to far and fast compared with the rest. and the belt area needs somesome movement try also rotating the belt buckle a touch see if it looks any good? and if u can do something subtle with the feet.
Look forward to seeing more mate ;-)
