Thanks for all the feedback so far everyone.

I'm scrapping the current version of this project though. As it turns out Construct 2 is just too limiting for me, so I'll be starting it over in Unity 2D. In light of that, I'm going to give myself another week to finish it.

Never could get the doors to drop you at the corresponding doors in the next room... :-X

Hey guys, I'm challenging myself to complete a small game project in a week. :D So far all I really have is basic movement and some player animations, but I'll be updating this thread with my progress.

so I forgot animations tend to run faster in browser, so apologies if these seem a bit cracked out...

Idle

Walk

Jump

Fall + Land

Idle on wall

Jump from wall

I'm definitely planning on toning down the stuck-to-wall idle animation, there's just way too much movement. I also haven't implemented the jump animation yet- I can't seem to make the anticipation work well with gameplay. Trying to strike a balance between a jump with a lot of impact and very responsive controls.

(This is mostly animation-related at the moment, but I'll eventually be looking for feedback on background pixels and general game design stuff. Would this be better off in the “Top Secret” section?)

I second the likes/dislikes being a major bonus. I find the best part is challenging myself to make something they would like regardless of my feelings toward the subject matter.

Maybe I'm just not understanding the idea, but wouldn't the preference pool thing be even more complicated to set up? Not only that, making a gift and not knowing who it's for would feel so impersonal, which for me defeats the whole purpose. I dunno. :/

I know big last minute crits can be annoying, but that head is straight up tiny. It'd be a shame not to fix it as the rest of the picture is looking quite nice!


I guess I've just been looking at it for too long. Samus typically has pretty long limbs relative to the rest of her so I figured it was fine, though I just measured and realized she's 9 heads tall. Probably shouldn't be any more than 8.  :(



Any better? I just increased the size by a few pixels on each side, she's about 8 heads tall now.

I was also concerned with making it look like her head could actually fit in her helmet, which at this point is barely feasible. Does the helmet look too small now, or am I just paranoid?

Thanks for the crits, Decroded! Tried to address everything here.



Stuff I did:
-lengthened arm
-slightly enlarged face
-background stuff! Hopefully approaching the end of that
-reduced contrast on camel toe a bit :U

As far as the tentacle positions, I didn't really want them to be that constraining. This scene is basically right before the "action" starts- or at least that's how I'm hoping it reads. I did try to reposition the breast tentacle, but in order to have it lifting the breast the way it is, I couldn't find another suitable angle. Hopefully the extension of that tentacle in the BG makes it a bit more immediately clear?

Tentacles don't look wet enough either lol.

I wanted to avoid the slimy tentacle look, since her suit and her armor are already super shiny. Didn't want to overload the scene with the same texture- I have a hard enough time making the materials stand out from each other as it is. :U

Do you guys think the red armor bits look okay as-is? The shape is deceivingly complex. It just doesn't seem to read as metal, but I'm not sure it's worth spending much more time making it look "perfect."

-changed canvas size. Planning on printing this and realized my aspect ratio was off.
-more tentacle details
-messed with face a bit

Still not too keen on the red parts, but I think they look a bit less awful now that they're not right at the edge, for some reason.
