Avatar-Fad

on: January 11, 2009, 12:48:45 am
I'm joining the newly started Fad(if its new how can it be a fad? oh well) over at the Pixel Joint.

Old      :
Newest:
These are the basics, not much left to be done now. shoulders and down, and the face, which is something I battle with the most.

I want to finish this soon, as I need an avatar.

My references:

UPDATE:

Jaw was bothering me, so I started again, and also found a more reliable reference other than myself.

Just add more of the light highlight since most of it is shaded with the dark.

Wrong, actually it's shaded with a mid tone, being the the second lightest tone for the skin, pure white is the brightest of the "skin" tones and is considered more of a shine than anything and was added for more of a stylistic choice and won't be used drastically.

And as for that darker tone being used to much, I tried to take light and shadows into thought when doing these. I think I could improve on this, but only over time, as my skills improve.

Haha, what do you mean 'wrong'? : D

I'd say either put more emphasis on the play between light and dark shades in his face, or add another highlight color in-between. (:

Yes, that and a photo of myself and my reflection in a mirror  :blind:. (though I didn't add this to the top post as it was a later choice and didn't come to mind.
He's a dude. Was a good source of inspiration. To much though?
Anyway's, I used as much of this, reference wise as needed. But I will agree that 2 colours were taken from the shirt and also 2 from the face XD mostly from laziness (not a crime). I will change the shirt if I must, as this would be easy enough.

I saw your progress of this over at pixeljoint a few days ago.  I thought it was funny it kinda looked like me, but i didn't realize you used my avy as a reference :P  It's certainly different enough to not be a problem at all.

Picture of me: not going to embed as I'm not good looking and don't want to embarrass myself.
