Jeremiah the Hero (Final?)

on: December 02, 2006, 12:23:50 pm
I had to try and begin creating more characters and get away from the hat wearing punk that I always draw.
So I made a hero that had similar features as my friend Jeremiah.

Final?

Similar features, huh? Hmm, this "Jeremiah" fellow must have the world's largest cow lick, and man boobs ever known to the beast known as man. :P

But seriously, I don't know what exactly you're looking for as far as certain critiques are concerned. I'm not gonna be anal, or an ass about anatomy, cuz obviously it's supposed to be cartoony. I guess, I would just pick on the fact that his right leg is shadowed more than his right, when his left leg seems to be in front. However, his current stance begs to differ upon this issue of light source, as evidence of both his arms recieving the same amount of light/shading.( Ugh, don't you just hate it when someone mentions that subject, "light source". It's like ya wanna kick em' in the face...I'll be waiting for mine in the mail)

Other than that, I'll hold my tongue till I get a better understanding of what your wanting to know...

I really like it. I think you could exaggerate the biceps to go along with the ridiculous chest, and maybe get rid of one row of abs. The left hand also looks a little weird where it meets the cuff of the shirt. But it looks great. I'd love to see it on a more detailed background.

Alright some small updates.

I started making a moon, wasn't sure if it looked good with the peice.

Tried making a background for this.
It was a little weird.

Did a bit of editing to the right arm for lightsource, but I don't know if it fixed anything or not.
Also edited the abs a bit.

Decided he needed some sort of crotch bulge.
I also removed the dark brown I had, instead made the hair black.

Good or Bad update?

good update - I'd extend the city behind him though!

Do away with the outline around the moon. Brings it way too far into the fg. Or at least dim it to a grey or pink or something.

I tried working with the moon to try and do what you said but I just can't picture it.
Care for an edit?

I extended the city, not sure if it looks good or not, what do you guys think?

Actually, I'd prefer the moon outlined. Keeps it better with the style, in my opinion. I also love the buildings behind him. makes it look much more complete, and very composite. I tried to make 2 edits, one with the preferred buildings behind the character( as AdamAtomic suggested), and the other without. I basically tried to revamp the character with some highlights, and stylize the buildings as well as the moon. I must say though, the white outline around the moon was a smidge hard to work with. Although the limited palette you chose was arse'ome.

P.S. I break perspectives, and original styles for a living...grr...

I absolutly love your moon edit.
So I tried doing something similar to the moon.

Pretty sure I failed at trying to revamp the moon.

I'll see what I can do about the buildings.
As for your edit on Jeremiah, I gotta see what you did so I can understand it myself.

I worked on the head a bit, haven't really done much with the rest of the body yet.

Edit:

Someone suggested removing the lines in the background.
So I did.

Better or Worse?

So what exactly are those arrows for?

Souly, this is turning out good.  I think the removal of the outlines is MUCH better, because the outline made it stand out, but you only really want the hero to stand out.  I like the arrows....it adds a sort of upbeat/emotional touch to the piece; it screams "Have no fear, Jeremiah is here!".
If you look on the outline of the hair, the yellows--I'd say take them out...they don't seem to be doing much...also maybe on the outline of the moon as well...I'm having a brain fart right now, but you usually don't see extra outlines aa'ed, I think :S....
If it was my piece, I'd move the bulge down a pixel, but that's more personal preference than anything.
Good stuff. I can't wait to see more from you.

Alright update time!

- Made some stars in the sky.
- Fixed up a bit of Jeremiah.
- Added a highlight to the top of all the roofs.

The only reason I'm double posting is because I think this may be the final update.

I'm happy with it at the moment.
But if anyone has any crits, I'll try to see what I can do. :B
