It's kinda both, I'd desaturate it just slightly, like maybe five points, and see if it looks better. The lack of differentiated details on it though makes it seem more like a mowed lawn than a patch of natural grass though.

Wings are too static during the run, I thought it was a hard cloth covering like you see on old medieval paintings! I recommend making the wings undulate a bit or twitch some while the run happens.
The transition between run and fly is also way too sudden, one frame of them ducking down before taking off could help alleviate that.

Give him a slight hunch away from the bar and crouch him a bit to give the rebar a weightier look, like he's struggling to drag it. That's what i'd do!

I think you need to tweak the colors and give it a more notable grain, or flow pattern. The grass right now just looks like chaotic astroturf, it's TOO green and way too regular-yet-unpatterned!
Even some small flowers and bits of longer/shorter grass and dirt would help it along!

Widen the jaw some! Males tend to have more squared jaws and more pronounced noses/browlines. Try to play with that a little bit!

I accidentally gave it a bit of a flicker, but I popped in some various tweaks including a sped-up framerate and a closer-to-100 resolution, as well as some animationy bits:
Edit: spoilered it, it seems a bit seizure-inducing to leave unhidden. Click only if not photosensitive!

Many of the mechs from Metal Slug also use more curves than angles, at least to my recollection. Metal slug is generally a good base to work your designs from though, haha
