Midis and Games

on: August 20, 2007, 05:09:00 pm
Hi, I put up this post in the OT-Creativity thread and interrupted a discussion about someone's artwork by mistake because I didn't read the thread but I didn't disturb it thankfully.
Anyway, I wanted to start a new thread with it because feedback would be cool.
The content is music composition and programming.

I've made some midis with "Midi Maker", thought I would post on here.

Most of them aren't complete tunes.

Oh and here is a compilation of two games I've programmed with Visual Basic;
Minesweeper and Tetris. The graphics are poor, sorry!

Here are links to each midi for those without an unzipper:

Tune005Tune006Tune007Tune008
Tune009Tune010Tune011Tune012
Tune013Tune014

-To play, click on the search bar so that the url is highlighted and press enter to be redirected to the midi.

The rar was corrupt for me.
Midi is cool, I have a library of old midis Ive ripped from many of my old favourite games. ;D
I found many of the midis a little repetive, but I really liked 4, 6 and 13. I think they would sound so much better if you could map them with samples or VSTs, some of the instruments are really annoying. :)

Thanks for the comments. Do you know how I might map the midis with other samples like you suggested? I've been trying but to no avail.

Im no expert on it, I have just been playing with it when I had access to the software, but you need some sort of sequencing software like Cubase or Cakewalk. Then you need some virtual instruments (VSTs) or samples. I have been playing around with Cubase and some orchestral VSTs and it really sounds amazing, almost like a real orchestra.

Here is a tune I made with Cubase and Edirol Orchestral VST:

I dont know if there is any free sequencing software, youll have to search around.

Wow, excellent, I have Cubase SE but I haven't figured out that function yet. I should get on it.
Great tune as well!
Thanks for the info.
