The highlights on the character's shirt look totally random and aren't doing much for the piece.
The outline of the character seems too light against the background. I suggest maybe trying without an outline at all.
If those are supposed to be coins they don't look very coin like. Try looking at some references of coins.
The face seems to have 2 buffer/AA shades but the rest of the body has none. This makes the style look a bit inconsistent.
The background and platforms confuses me. What is it supposed to be? Also why the double pixel highlights on the platform?
Other than that I think it looks like you got a pretty decent start. Something about the interface doesn't work for me. Maybe you could spruce it up.
