Hey Everyone,

Its been a little while since I've posted anything on this project. But I am back with a recent screen shot. Feedback is always welcomed, and thanks to everyone again who has commented on the project to help it go forward.

A remix on the rocks using red_mists idea. I am now stuck on making a nice coral looking background, to go within the cave area I am working on right now too.

I tend to do a 3 layers to my bg. Working on bg 1 right now, but I'm not feeling it to much, I should post it up soon.

@ RedMist:
This screen shot provided is from a flash game I am working on. The gradient background is just some filler and it will be replaced by something a little more aquatic feeling. However, the scenario calls for the “hero” to be trapped in an endless cave like structure.  I have a long list of things I still need to create for this game in order to make it feel like an aquatic scene; right now it reminds me of a fish in space. Thanks for your remix, I will take your and attempt to put your C&C to work

@ Lizzrd:
I just posted this topic yesterday. Thanks for liking my original rocks, but I think I will tackle the rocks with the suggestions provided tonight.  You are right this is not for any competition; this is purely for a flash game that I am currently working on. I definitely have a lot more to go on this project.

@Dr.D:
I plan on adding at least 3 more panels and a bunch of aquatic set pieces still need to be made. The background will be an underwater cave, which will be developed more tonight.

Here is where we are currently, I’ll have another update as soon as I can put some serious hours into it. Enjoy and thanks for the Feedback.

Hey Kidfrommars,

The key thing I notice is how the areas on your character are not well defined. The pieces that make up your character are very straight when the body in real life is not straight as a pencil. I think you should take the time to add some roundness to the character. Also, if this picture is inspired by Mega Man then take some time to look at how Capcom really brings Mega Man to life.

You can clearly see that the extremities are clearly defined.

I hope that helps you in your pixel journey.

Hey Everyone,

I am working on a new project, and right now I am working on the underwater rocks of DOOM. I think the structure of the rocks looks pretty good, however a little C&C to make these look even better never hurts. Also, the GUI is still a work in progress.

Thanks for your time.

Btw love your avatar.

Just my two cents:

I think you could get away with zero animation the beats or stick with an idle like your sea serpent. Then I would make my animation be a claw strike that comes from right to left or however you want to do it. Insert a good sfx to go with the swipe and you have a very simple and low frame animation.
Look at Dragon Warrior Franchise or early FF games on the snes to see what I mean.

First of all, looks great mate! I love the style and the colors - reminds me of some of the megaman games.

one thing I noticed though:

Inconsistent shading: I was trying to figure out where exactly the light source is coming from.

-the gray block has the light source set coming right from above.
-the blue and green arms look like it has 3 light sources, one on either side and then one right above.

Thanks for the comment. Indeed Megaman was my inspiration for such a game, actually everything Capcom/Konami/Square is my daily inspiration.

I wasn't trying to give a definitive light source. My aim was to push the colours to make the shape I wanted to see while using no black lines. Everything I've done in this game is brand spanking new for me also. Definitely I need more practice in pushing the colours to show some sort of general light source. I'll be keeping that in mind on the next game project.

If you have a tip to pass my way I would love to read them :) thanks.

I really like your logo design. Could you tell me what steps you did before laying the pixels down? I've attempted only one logo myself, and I have another one on the way :)

scrolling the floor wouldn't be much of an issue on a good engine: it's just a matter of having line-by-line scrolling speed, as you would find in e.g. Shadow of the Beast.
Is that a LEGO head I spot on the machine ?

The floor will be stationary as the character is never meant to move, however thanks for the example because I might re do the treadmill in the back so it looks more like the flooring. That is a lego inspired character you see, we call him bolt/plug head.
