I assume you don't really need more C+C because it's totally finished. (I think?)

But it's an excellent use of colouring, shading and ambient lighting. Very humerous characters. :)

I think it's a well done piece.
I'm not sure I really like the way the orange is done on the hand/arm.

Also, the shading on the stomach/torso of the robot.. it's kind of, plain? I'm not sure how to describe it. I think it could be done a little better.
And the head probably could have had that anti alias between the orange/blue done more on the top right section of the head. ;)

But overall I like it. If it were up to me I might outline it though.

And my preference is Graphics Gale. ;) MSPaint, sure, it can be used and all, but I rather GG. Plus, for transparency in MSPaint, you need to open it another program to do that, why not all in one?

General Discussion / Re: what is the best tool for pixelation?
« on: September 19, 2005, 11:04:03 pm »
I have Paint Shop Pro 9, but I don't like to use it for pixel art. It's too much of a large program to bother opening it just to do pixel art.

A while ago, I got GraphicsGale registered so I've always used that.
I often also copy stuff from GG into TGF while making little games.

MSPaint is too crap.
I know people will say otherwise, but the fact is that the palette sucks ass in the beginning and that it always resets itself, it's annoying. Even if you keep your custom palette saved as an image. It's annoying as all hell.

GraphicsGale has an easier interface, some more options and pretty much everything you need for pixel art.
Customizeable shortcut keys also help alot.

I think it's very well done but because of the dithering that covers the entire bottom, you perhaps could've added yet more depth from that?

Nifty pixel doodles, I think they're sweet. Love that picture posted above, it looks great.

I love your work, I remember it from Pixelation, can't wait to see this all unfold. Knowing you, it'll definately be a promising piece. :D

The trees seem a bit clumpy and the contrast is a little low.
The newer one is better. Perhaps a little more contrast if you wanted, but otherwise, I think it's good.

The totem pole is really good for the monochrome palette, I think you did that really well.

Also the three last pieces are really outstanding. Awesome work.

I love black metal.

Anyway -- on-topic, I think they could all be potentially good pieces.
For the first one, I can't give much advice about the shadows, but I think some darker outlined and use of anti-alias would really make this alot better. Especially the face, because it's quote blocky. And you need some form of shading on the face too.
The dithering you've used is firstly too subtle, and not enough contrast between the shades.
Also, the light source and shading looks a bit odd, perhaps find a pixel tutorial somewhere about shading and light sources, that would be very helpful for you.
On the second piece, the lines seem a little harsh and thick? Perhaps smoothen them out with anti aliasing that isn't too dark, and there could be some better shading to help make the facial features stand out more.
On the third piece, this is not too bad, however the eyes and mouth are not dark enough to stand out much. And for a small/skinny piece such as this, colouring, outlines and anti-alias are all important but also sometimes hard to utilise. I can't give much help on that, I'm not too familiar with pieces like that.
