Quick and really dirty dogmeat edit:

I thought the lighting was way off, and it made this character look very flat and didn't help bring out the gnarled features very well. All i've done here was added some shadowing and brought the leafy parts out to the forefront just a little.

Great char, just needs lighting work :)

Hope this helps you.

On another note, is anyone playing Fallout 3? I have it and have played for a bit, but i'm restricting myself because of my wedding in 2 weeks but I'm dying to play so bad.
Yeah! I beat it the day after it came out- still playing it though, catching up on all the stuff I missed. I really do love it, so much interesting stuff to find just by walking around. I actually just found Dogmeat, too. :hehe:

Serious? Thats dissapointing. I remember spending a long time on fallout 1 just to get to the end. I hate games that you can beat in a few days, super mario galaxy for example was great and all, but beating it in a few days made me feel dissapointed. We'll see, I tend to take my time with games like fallout.

1 question, I ran into an invisible wall when I was playing, does this remain throughout the game?

k, started this a while back; just finished it off now :3...

I love this! I really just love landscapes, especially when you can stare into them and get that "sigh" of satisfaction, which I did from yours. Good job :)

new: old:

I have to admit, this is a tough concept for me, I've fudged the area arachne pointed out above, and I'd like your opinions on how I'm doing, and if I'm correcting the jaggies and the banding problem correctly. If not, I  need more help, otherwise, I can start working on the rest of him.

the way I'm looking at the problem is more like if we have 3 colors, a light, medium and dark, the dark and the light can't touch, except for the corners, and you have to bridge the colors using the medium color. Problem with this is that i feel like I've seen a lot of good pixel art where you have a really bright highlight, and to 1 side you  have smooth blending, but to the other side you have the darkest color in the palette. I'm not sure if this is a lighting thing, a style thing, or what, if anyone knows, please let me know :)

Thanks ;)

EDIT: added dragon10.gif next to it, for ease of comparison.

I definitely thought it was a squirrel at first glance due to the head and tail. Rodent qualities. I thought your leg placement and color choices needed the most work, so In my edit I offer some suggestions on lightening up your palette while showing you what i thought the leg should look like. It currently looks like he is trying to squat to go to the bathroom or is a stuffed animal just kind of sitting there.

Even with my quick 10 minute edit, there are still some issues with anatomy and whatnot, but I wanted to give you my impression of your cute critter. Can't wait to see some updates :)

HOpe this helps.

Oh my goodness, this is all amazing. I don't spend much time in this section of the site, I'm wondering what you're using to create the ships , render the textures on them and export them as you have.

Also, just from these graphics, I would love to check out the possible game, if a demo is released :)

I'm no mod but if I were to create a paint program just for pixeling it would only need a few tools, most important of all being a easy to use palette:

1. Palette ( ability to load up colors, save palettes and maybe some hotkey mechanism to switch colors )
2. Pencil ( just like mspaint, left click paints, right click paints, if I click my palette it grabs that color )
3. Eraser ( instead of an eraser, I think it would be more beneficial to have a transparency color in the palette tool, use that to erase to trans )
4. Layers ( Only need 2 layers for any kind of pixel art, to easily move stuff around or to save an old copy of something for comparison )
5. Select/move tool ( a select tool you can use lasso with right click, square with left click, use shift for uniformity )
6. I also think a hotkey/button to select whatever color your cursor is over while using the pencil tool would be better than an eye dropper.

Honestly, there are tons of programs to pixel with, the benefit of creating something new would be for speed and efficiency using the tools. Its better to expand upon something that was already created, than to create something new that already exists.

my 2c

later.

I don't understand the term "banding", helm. Please correct me if I'm wrong in my understanding but is banding the way to tie two shades together with some sort of balanced color in between? Or is it more like an inner AA that provides a level of polish. In other words, I really don't understand the meaning behind the concept, but from the imagery, I get a sense as to what needs to be done to correct the problem. I think if I understand how the problem arises, I can avoid it more effortlessly in the future.

Also, if we get a good explanation going on, I will be better suited to give similar C&C to others in the future, so we're helpful all around :)\

I am learning loads from working on this, feels great.
