I don't know if I helped in any way but I had fun messing around.

Removed most of the dithering
Added teeth
Removed racoon eyes
used your yellow color instead of wite(that was a high contrast)
maeesed around whith the pupils

It's an unlooping two frame .gif.

Here, I isolated the first frame for you. :)

I don't have time to critique at the moment, but I'll just say to look at the light source more closely and how it's casting on your forms. It's looking better, though.

Define what you call pillowshading.

i was taught that it is like a color that surrounds the color in the middle of it

im scared of color count because every body always rips into me on pixel joint for having so many colors so i think i might ask if no more colors are added

pillow shading is when you shade a shape jsut buy going around the outline and gradually moving in with brightter and brigher shades. its a usual method when people aren't really aware of how to properly shade some volumes.
thus the usual frase "pick a light source and shade accordingly". if you chose a light source position, you automatically respond to that while shading
still, I dont think you are doing pillowshading on porpouse, but there are some areas that look a bit pillowie. specially how you put dark shades around the shapes.
for example the hair of your avatar could be considered pillow shaded.

as for too many colors, dont worry about that. first try and shade it, then think about economy. once you understand the concept of light and shadow it will be easier for you to be cheaper with the colors
Image size doesn't matter! It's what you do with your pixels that counts!
