Pixel Art / My First Pixelart

Hi everyone! I just registered here, and i'm veery new to pixelart (tried for real like.. yesterday). I really would like to improve my skills, but i can't find any really good tutorials. Well, i hope you guys can point me in the right direction 
I've made some sprites for games i've been working on, but they where not very serious, so her's my first REAL try.
Here's my second one. In this one i thought about how many colors i used (it's 9 colors if you count the background). Since i don't really know why you should count the colors i guess i did it only to be like the cool guys
