Pixel Art / Re: The makings of a hero ~ Huzzah!
« on: May 20, 2007, 02:20:29 am »
@Adarias: Hmm, I've never played it, but looking at some images from it I think it is the kind of look I am going for. About the readability, read below. Thanks. :3
@ptoing: Hmm, I will go back and try to correct those when I get this last sprite the way I want it. It'll be good practice. :D Any tips for fixing that? ??? Should I stick more to basic shapes and less shades? Just less of everything? Hrm...  :-\

Latest update: Color changes, costume tweaks, trying to remove some anime ghey from it.

Edit: I just realized those arms are completely unreadable on this latest edit. Fixing. ><

Edit: Better?

Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Platform Game Mockup
« on: May 19, 2007, 08:12:15 pm »
I think maybe you should work with tiles instead of sketching out and filling in this large of a background, so I'd scrap everything besides the refined left part of the sketch and work from there. The stuff you laid in in the back isn't going to stay in any fashion, so it's just distracting.
The underwater part is a neat idea, but you aren't really adding anything new to it that the last person who made a mockup like this had. The highlights on the grass strands you have right now need to move more to the yellow side of the color chart, while the darker parts need to be much bluer.
The health bar in the corner looks fine to me.

Overall I feel you're sticking to closely to what has already been made; bring some of your own stuff to the mix, whatever it may be.

Pixel Art / The makings of a hero ~ Huzzah!
« on: May 19, 2007, 07:59:43 pm »
I had a couple of free hours last night, so I started making an action platformer mock-up. I need some suggestions regarding the hero though, I'm a bit indecisive at the moment. :-\

The left is the first one I drew, just getting some ideas down. The right is that design taken to more extreme levels (exempli gratia: bigger crazier hat).

I decided that character didn't look enough like the rouge knight I had in mind, so I redid it completely. The first is first draft, the second is with some outlines because the character got lost in the tiling too easily, and the last is my latest tweaking.

But now I am feeling that the latest design is probably too generic and smallish. :(

Comments, edits, GTFOs?

You forgot (?) the skull capeholder dealy he had in the sketch. I like the helm design, very neat. Of course PK's edit rox, but I think that would be much harder to animate so I wouldn't add as many folds in the fabric.

I tried to fix and update some more things.

Still fixing the World, it needed a major overhaul. I don't know if that's a pun or not.

Edit: Oops, wrong tags.  :-[

Pixel Art / Re: Character for a fighting game I'm making.

The size depends on what resolution you are going to use. Capcom sprites are under half the size of this, but Guilty Gear's sprites are roughly the same size I think. I'd adopt the 50% approach; this could take a while to color and animate properly at this size. Based on the older sketches I saw I think this character design is stronger than what you had but is still sort of bland. Consider my 'significant accessory' theory. :3

Ignore the anatomy on this one. I plan to transfer the armor onto the other sprite and tweak whatever needs to be tweaked.
I need to read. :-[ Sorry.

It looks like to me that the arms and torso are way too long compared to the length of the lower body. I don't think the problem is so much that the upper half is too long as much as that the lower half is much too short, especially if you're going for a sort of lanky look, which I assume you are. The neck looks really overly long also. The metal sheen looks much better than it did before, excellent job on that.

I don't think adding nipples and ears detract from style any. :P I think your new version looks much better personally, although I don't see why you added a hole to the cloth, and I think the 'tattered tape' looks better as the one strand in Big Brother's edit and would be a hell of a lot easier to animate or reposition if you do anything more with this.

Big Brother's edit reminds me a lot of Fatal Fury Real Bout Special, really nice work. :3

Nah, I was thinking the same thing about the face and I figured it was because I'd been looking at it too long, you know? I didn't apply all of your facial edits to it so I could still do those, and if it is still wonky I'll switch the colors up some. That should be fun. :3

Outsponded by lonlaz! Adding more for great justice.

At first, the character was a guy, but when I had finished the first go everything looked very feminine. The pink certainly doesn't help that. XD So I just decided to leave the sexuality of 'Nemo' up in the air, although he is just a very pretty boy I guess. Thanks for the reply. :)

Edit: I should also add I'm making this for the enterance page for my website I'm making, and it will be displayed on a plain white background. I'll also be adding a cat, but first things first right?
