Hello guys,

My first attempt at an explosion:

My reference, from Metal Slug (couldn't tell you which one however):

So yeah, it's pretty hard  :D.

As usual, rip it apart!  :y:

General Discussion / Fun Group Activity

Wouldn't it be fun to have a collective spriting activity? We start with a blank canevas and everyone add up elements to it? I mean, not limit the whole thing to seperate hexagons. As this been attempted before, would it interest anyone?

Pixel Art Feature Chest / GR#149 - Jumping Animation
« on: December 15, 2013, 11:30:28 am »
Hello!

The time has come again to seek feedback about yet another animation.
I thought I’d describe my process this time around (better safe than sorry!  :y:).

Well, I used this reference from Street Fighter 3 this time around.

After fiddling with this a bit I got this:

Which looked, really, really wrong. So I tried to find another reference. I couldn’t really find anything on Google except a video you had to pay for so I tried to salvage some frames from it for reference:
http://www.jasonryananimation.com/tutorials.html

So reworked the animation and I got this :

So, sure, it's a lot better than my first attempt but I'm not happy with it just yet.

As usual, you know the drill  :). Tear it apart and I'll rework it over and over again until it's good enough for the game.

EDIT1:

So after I analyzed it further I started to see a couple of things which were bothering me:

* The hair was static, so I changed that.
* The arms were static, so I changed that.
* The timing was super wonky, so I tweaked that a bit.
* Modified other little details.

And I got this:

EDIT2: Then I figured, better do something about those legs really. They're too static too.

And I got this:

Pixel Art / Portrait: Looking for a Mentor !
« on: November 11, 2013, 01:07:47 pm »
DISCLAIMER: The reference used for thie piece might be considered bad. I am doing this as a favor for someone else so please keep that in mind   ;D.

Here's what I have so far.  I really want to understand how I can succeed in making the skin 3d as opposed to being flat. I think the nose is on the right path but the rest, I could use some help with.  :y:

Pixel Art / Megamind Baby
« on: August 14, 2013, 11:38:59 am »
Hey guys, it’s me again!

So this once again is for a contest. I’m limited to 15 colours and a canvas of 150 x 150. The theme is childhood and I chose to reproduce the baby in the animation picture Megamind.

This is my reference:

And this is where I’m at right now. I’ve also included an animated gif of my work process.

As usual, I will put into practice your advices and suggestions as I’ve done before. I’d really like for this to be my best work!
Thank you for reading!

Pixel Art / UUUUP!
« on: June 30, 2013, 05:22:43 pm »

Do you recognize this little guy? The beginning of the movie really was a kick in the head, just about the best animation scene so I thought I'd do a little something.

I'd really appreciate if you could rip it apart. I'm having a hard time with the pants as you can see.

EDIT: Used a black background, a transparent background made the thing unreadable in the forums.

Thanks!

Pixel Art / Blond Girl Portrait
« on: June 24, 2013, 04:05:44 pm »
Heya guys!

Maybe some of you remember the Chinese girl portrait I started a while back. Well, I was told the reference picture I had picked wasn't good so I decided to call it done.

This is thus my third portrait attempt and I want this to be a massive step forward from my other stuff.

This is the reference picture:

And this is my WIP:

I have the following questions:
* How many colors should I use to color the skin?
* What is a good way to pixel hair?

What I'd mostly like to know is about my first question.
