Pixel Art / Re: Needing of a tutorial to draw sprite sheets and tilesets

Read this: http://pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11299
It just teaches you some basic things to keep in mind. You won't get good from reading it.
This is the closest thing to teaching possible if you don't post anything to critique (read it though).

Pixel Art / Re: Running animation ?
« on: January 04, 2018, 03:00:37 am »
The 1st and 4th frames last for 150ms and the others 100ms. It creates a cool timing for the arms maybe, but the hair and scarf's movement look weird because of it.
The hair is kind of expanding. Not so much in the latest version, but keep in mind keeping its overall size consistent.

The thing that bothers me the most is that the body falls instead of rising in the frames the legs extend. It's like that when walking because there's always a foot in the ground, but running is like making small leaps I guess :blind:

I quickly fixed those things. All frames 100ms long.
I also tried to separate the front leg from the back leg a bit, cleaned some things a bit, and made a less cazy scarf animation.

I hope it helps in any way or gives you ideas.

This tile looks a bit artificial and repetitive. There's a very obvious pattern.

But it looks nice overall.
The character style shocked me a bit at first because I was expecting something else after seeing the environments, but 5 seconds later it didn't bother me at all  so I guess it's ok

Well it's hard to edit because I don't know what the object is, but I cleaned it a bit.

Didn't change the colors (Edit: I actually changed the yellow so it had some more contrast with the darker one), but I added a third yellow color for the middle part for separating each yellow stripe (it looks like crap but I'll leave it like that) because I'm not a fan of "outlines" inside the sprite.
The part where the yellow arrow is pointing to looked weird because there were more outline than actual object (I don't mean it can't work, but in this case I think you can make it a bit bigger so it looks better).
I changed the single pixels in the handle to simple shapes so it doesn't look so noisy and added a bit of autoaliasing to some other parts but I didn't put a lot of thought to it

I'd like to know what it's supposed to be. I guess I don't know it because I would recognise it, but I'm curious about it.

An umbrella sword :)
It could be a bit cleaner and nicer without so many little details and single pixels.

Looks pretty fun. It reminds me a lot to Toby Dixon's style, but I guess are aware : )

The second one looks better now imo, but the red in the first one contrasts too much and the yellow parts contrast too little from the white and is hardly noticeable at first sight.
I always recommend reading this: http://pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11299

I'm noticing the first one looks a bit too slow. It's ok with the second one because it looks heavier, but the first one looks fast and light so maybe a faster animation would fit better.

Use the link with the .png or .gif at the end and put it between and (without the spaces) and post it at original size. If you click any image in the forum it will zoom in :)

I like this kind of stuff, and it looks ok, but they could be a lot more interesting.
I would change the timing of the movements and make movements faster or slower, maybe adding some ease-in or ease-out too.
The sprites themselves look kind of plain because of the colors. There isn't a lot of contrast and grey isn't the most interesting color :P

I love the characters and the animations :)
The first character has many details but it looks very clean and readable.

Pixel Art / Re: Question About Animation Format

You usually save it as .gif and upload it to imgur, unless it's a linear long animation or something instead of a loop.
