Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Tiny work.

Tiny note, is that I don't want this pose to exactly be any more dynamic.

I guess that makes sense if the purpose of the piece is for character design or something.

Personally I don't think there's enough to go on yet. It seems good enough of a starting point to me. I'm not an expert with anatomy but I don't see any glaring issues with this as a rough base. The only thing that might be bugging me is in the neck/shoulders, but not the legs. I think it will be easier to give some more solid criticism once you have some more definition in the forms.

Yeah, sorry if that wasn't clear. The puppy will stay, the edit will be used as a different character (if used at all). It's supposed to be a bulbasaur.

This recent topic seems to have exactly what you're looking for.

Yeah, the background is awesome. I love those stone floor tules under the table. There's a lot of character in there.

How do the characters work? I mean it's obvious for the bottom character but what about the one on the top? Would it just be flipped upside-down? It seems like it would look awkward.

Sorry it's been so long. Been working a lot and haven't had much time for pixels. But I have some more to add.

First is just a little edit of the puppy. He might work his way in or not, it's just for fun and not too special.

Bigger is a game boss I was thinking about. Big king kong type fellow who stands on top of a skyscraper. There'd be a skyscraper in the background and he would jump back and forth between them. Since there wouldn't really be combat in the game, the objective here would mostly just be to try and get past him while he's on the skyscraper in the background. I'm thinking he might also blow wind or something at you to keep you from moving forward at your regular pace.

I still think he needs a lot of work.

Lastly I'm revamping the main character a bit. His general proportions and style now are going to be more similar to the crucified Jesus character (a style that I will try and keep consistent with all the human characters), and he's at a more interesting angle visually.

Here's an idle animation. Still needs work, clearly. I plan to animate the arms and stuff as well, and possibly add more defined hands with fingers.

Are these supposed to be RPG sprites? That's my guess because of the style on them. In which case I'm also going to guess that you want a top-down perspective. That's what the head is telling me, at least. The rest of the body is very straight-on. You seem to try to work with the perspective by making things thinner as it goes down, but more accurately they'd get shorter faster than they'd get thinner. The whole body and legs seem very tall and long to me.

I think you went a bit overboard with the dithering in the hair on the bottom one. I'm not too muh of a fan of dithering to begin with but that just looks way too busy and detracts from the overall sprite.

Pixel Art / Re: Mini Mario...REALLY mini...

I like the running animation a lot -- it's very smooth, although I think that it would be more suited to replace the walking animation.

My biggest problem is that it doesn't feel like Mario. I mean it looks like Mario, but it doesn't really capture the charm of the cartoony style. I don't necessarily mean that I want you to try and emulate the style, but I imagine Mario as shorter and portlier, and maybe with a bigger head in comparison with the body.

But of course it is entirely recognizable and it makes sense visually, which is a pretty good accomplishment for something that's this small.

I like the one where he rocks on his toes. Could that one actually be converted into the idle animation? It seems to have a lot more character than the basic breathing up and down movement. I also think that one of those colors isn't really needed (the lightest or second-lightest brown).

In the first one I just had to point out that his innear ear changes color in a bunch of frames.

Why do you AA the outlines? I assume from what you said it's for a game. But if you have the transparency for only those colors on the outline, then go for it I suppose.

I've been AAing a lot lately, don't really know why but it's been leaking over into everything I do. The game is actually going to be very minimalist graphically though, and there'd be no real background other than the solid "white" color.

One of the frames bothered me in the legs as well, so I shortened that a bit (frame 1, where he lifts his leg from the back).

Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Iso projects

I don't have much to say because I have really no experience in iso and I actually don't like it much. So I can't offer any really technical information.

But just by looking at it, I can tell you that I think there are some serious reptition problems here. At least to my eye, the repition on the first one (each wall is the exact same thing, and very busy at that) isn't incredibly pleasing to look at. The second one seems to have too many windows, but it might just be the style of building and I'm not too familiar with it.
