Trying to make a fighting game mockup

on: November 02, 2006, 06:19:08 pm
'sup? New to the forum, been spriting for 2 years or so. Here's some of my recent work, supposed to be Terry Bogard and Billy Kane from Fatal Fury/KOF:

Also here's a background I've been working on, which is obviously still WIP. Perspetive might be really off since I'm not really used to making backgrounds that big. Comments and such are welcome

Cool, it even matches the KOF style. Honestly, I've always prefered Capcom's looser, comic-ish style myself, but very nice.

Really nice, I've always liked fighting sprites. I did little touch ups to add depth to the image.

Cool beans. I do think the highlights need more contrast in them. The lack of a nice bright highlight dulls out the sprites too much. Also, Terry's legs seem somewhat bulky, although VictorR's edit seems to fix that somewhat.

Great work. I'd love to see a Blue Mary sprite. ;)

I am sorry, but I really like the 'yours' version a lot better. Although I agree that his skin in the original is a tad bit too saturated, I think yours lost all the depth at the skin while at the same time, the highlight on the pants was brought forth in a not-so-smooth fashion ):

I do like the top of his cap, though, and the shading style you used on the darker parts of the pants. Heh.

The pants were what I was going to edit mostly. They needed more detail

That is a very tough call; whether to add another highlight to the jeans, or raise the brightest color on the jeans. I'd try each and maybe adjust the pixels to get the threshold right. The thin streak of lightest pixels in the edit seems too sharp and glaring.

Just putting this up for a comparison:

Capcom vs Snk      -      Yours           -          Yours       -        King of fighters

Yeah it's one of these cases where it's not ripping, but the critique I could give would probably be considered detrimental to what the artist is apparently trying to do, which is 1:1 emulate the original sprites. I'd say 'go the opposite way' but I guess that's not useful really.

I'm loving what you've got in mind for the background, firstly the bridge idea, but the way it surves in the back in super.. best of luck with it.
