Pixel Art / Heartcore (gore and nudity!)
« on: July 02, 2011, 02:05:52 pm »
I'm not really satisfied with this one, and I should probably rework it from the outline stage, but I lost my heart (ahem) so I just brushed the final result up and called it a day.

Different stages of development:

Pixel Art / Re: [Huge WIP] Waiting

The woman/girl's face doesn't look very girly, she looks like she's got a flat nose stretching all the way to the right of her face (this may be because the girl in your reference pic is looking in a different direction than the one in your pixel art). She also reminds me of Mona Lisa for some reason. The guy's face is alright.

Though in general, I think the faces use too many colours for such a small size, it makes them look blurry (again, the girl in particular).

Pixel Art / Roman Men

Sorry, I just saw Mush's topic and couldn't resist giving mine this title.

One of the defining moments in the history of ancient pixel art:

I think I screwed up the lighting a bit (and shadows). There's some banding in areas where I just couldn't come up with a good way to remove it (or just didn't notice it and sort of left it in).

Pixel Art / A fairy tale (sort of)
« on: May 05, 2011, 10:45:30 pm »
This is a fragment of what I planned to be a story (something halfway between a Russian fairy tale and No Country for Old Men) illustrated with pixel art.

Bigger version here.

It took me a surprising amount of time to create, and - as you can probably see - it includes a wide variety of rookie mistakes (the horn, in particular, is banded like hell, and I kept the original outline I used).

Anticipating criticism, here are some of my attempts at anti-aliasing. The first one on the left is the original (keeping the outline), the second one includes anti-aliasing of the facial features but not the horn, and the last two are my attempts at anti-aliasing the horn (admittedly, they're horrible, in part because I got tired and did a bit of a half-assed job).

Hello! I'm Cesque, and I'm another one of those Game Maker people. I've been developing (or trying to develop) indie games for quite a while now, but only got interested in pixel art proper recently. Thanks a lot, Mush.
