[WIP] [C+C] Stepping out of my comfort zone?

So i've been itching to try something other than what I'm "good" at and try something new.

So is this an attempt at any other style than what I've done in the past. I tried using different Hues and even not making a "human" character. I dont exactly have a name for him.
Basically my question is, is this a step in the right direction?

It's your first post here.
Most people, like myself aren't familiar what you have done in the past, or where you are stepping out of your comfort zone.

Simple truth is that it's impossible for me to clarify what I am looking at, because it's kinda abstract?
Is it a teacup with legs?

Thing is that unless you don't clearly describe your problem, it's impossible to help.
Just regarding to the Hue-shift - it looks alright.

I think it is a cup with a face and the handle is the nose.

Oh! Yeah, with a furry eyebrow, tiny eye and mouth, and weird ear. I see it now.

I made this assuming it was supposed to be a teacup. The most important thing at this point is readability. It is very difficult at the moment to tell what it is supposed to be.

The scribbling features and the shading really throws off the teacup vibe. The shading suggests a fluffy texture, as Mathias suggested in thinking it was a sheep.


In my edit, I just tried to clean it up to make it readable.

Yeah sorry guys, No thats supposed to be an arm, not an ear. But no Im used to JUS character spriting, and Im trying to branch from that. It probably showed in the shading.  It is in fact a teacup though.
Thank you for the quick reference, I'll use that when I have time. as I'm only home for a minute.

Apologize for the double post but

I incorporated the shading that Parker showed me onto two other cups, one still having the arm, but Im having trouble actually making it look like an arm. The other I left it out and just shaded it. I also left out the crack on accident.

I saw a teacup, but before Parkerbaby's edit I would never guess that top right black cluster was eyebrow.

In last edit cup handle is in very strange position. In first version it was in the same plane as the nose, and now it's almost where its left eye should be.
