Hippopotamus Hunt

on: October 17, 2006, 09:47:13 pm
For those who were asking, here's my master remaster entry with WIP anim included.

Original: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Peter_Paul_Rubens_083.jpg

Based on a work by the old master Peter Paul Rubens. My contribution to the remaster portion of this activity is in the realm of color. No fancy stylistic changes.

Woah.  :o That's awsome. It looks alot like the original (in a good way). Exept with brighter colors. And with cool pixelness.

I think the purple on the alligator is a bit of a stretch, but it's good anyhow. I really like your palettes, Pep. There's something about them, but I'm not sure how to explain them. Je ne sais quoi. I think it's all that messing around with the Palace palette that has geared your mind to working with colors in this unexplainable way.

It's absolutely beautiful. There are just two small issues that are bugging me:

1. The face of the man in the upper middle, (the one in green) is really weak.
2. The spear of that same guy looks odd the way it's aiming straight down, maybe tilt it a little more towards the hippo, like the original.

Other than that, stunning work!

Damn. wonderful! This is just making me too jealous. Anyways, great work man.  The shading on the right horse is kinda pillow shaded. I think you should alter that shading for an above lighting since the sun is up there.

Thanks for the C+C. I took your suggestions and updated. Improved face of the guy in the top middle, and fixed the angle of the spear as well. Cut back the purple on the crocodile, and did several retouches to things that I caught myself. Here is the update:

Also, someone from another forum ran my image through an emulation style interpolater from within Gimp:

Thanks again.

This is beautiful Pep.  My only crit is on the hippo, I can't look at it without thinking the hippo has a mohawk.
