Pixel Art / Re: C&C animation tests
« on: October 26, 2017, 11:41:56 pm »
Heyyo, good start for sure !
The turnaround test; the different angles are looking quite good and well defined, here are some edits i'd make:
-The facing Right, the Belt doesnt correctly rotate with it
-The Facing Up, the Tail floats above the leg whereas on the other angldes, its on the floor.

Now the Walk cycle; Weird indeed, ahah! I'd look into keyframing each main element of a walk cycle:
[Neutral -> Right Step-> Neutral -> Left Step]
After that, add the Foot Lift inbetweens:
           [Neutral ->(lift) -> Right Step-> Neutral ->(lift) -> Left Step]
Note: *Whilst one foot is lifting, the other foot is dragging back

Hopefully this helps a bit

Pixel Art / Re: |Beginner| Does this couch look like it's game ready?

Ah understood!  ;D In which case good start!

Since this is your first sprite for the game, it means you don't have an established style for your game yet-
In which case, this Couch will be the starting point to determining the aesthetic of the rest of the game. Main point being, make sure the rest of the assets you create fit within the same style as the Couch.

Personally here's a few edit's i'd make [With a GIF to demonstrate]:
1 - Make sure to establish each individual shape of a Couch
2 - Apply Base colour [I wasn't a huge fan of the original green, so I shifted it to have a blue-ish tint]
3 - Apply shading, Darker Greens (Still with blueish tint)
4 - Added detailing and a last outlining and a bit better shaping

[Note: The reasoning behind changing the green to have a more bluish tint to it is that, within a dark setting, Blues are often the type of lighting applied, so this might work for your scenario?

Hopefully this was somewhat helpful !

Yo!  :)
What's the style of the game? If you can show us the setting this couch would be in, I may be able to drop some edits if any are required.

For example, if the room the couch would be in has a light source on the left, that would influence how i'd review the couch's lighting etc etc

Hello there! Here's a few edits I tried to apply for the upper torso, with a kinda step by step?
Hopefully it looks good, and provides some insight-

Initially, Since I quite liked the shape of the original tail, I though this Wavy motion could be simulated with the right shading. But after analyzing it for a bit whilst testing, it felt better to re-do it instead with the Sine-wave concept in mind.
My bad on the misjudgement.

As for the shading, Maybe something like this?

(Sorry in advance that it's not colored)
Hey, so this me trying to execute the Wavy-ness. Might not be the best, but hopefully it helps get the point across  :P
If I was to give a sort of analogy, maybe compare the motion of the Tail whilst running, to something like a Sine-wave?
eh :3

Pixel Art / Re: opinions on tablets

Hmm- If you're working on a medium to large scale Sprite art, I feel tablets can be beneficial.
It's all really dependent on multiple factors, like:
-What scale are you working on? 16x16? 32x32? something closer to 128x128 - 256x256(I consider this medium-large range sprite art)
-Are you comfortable drawing with Pencil, and do you feel the transition is a necessity. If you're more proficient with pencil than you are with mouse, getting a tablet is likely going to be beneficial.
 :)

Oooh I do like the shading, the choice of colors for the darker tones work quite well.
The flow of the tail is good, and works pretty well with the motion of Flareon's body as well!

I think I have a minor issue with the tail (and I might be wrong on this). I don't know how to fully describe it but I'll try:
-The shading of the tail feels like it doesn't portray the way Wind effects Fur?
