I see a definite improvement here. Good job.

I have a hard time reading the face of the top one. I see an eye, then a jumble of black curves.

Also, you don't have to go to pure black. A very dark blue such as (0,0,32) could work for slightly softer outlining.

Finally, go slightly darker with the shading in places. It will make the forms pop a bit more.

*sigh*

Shall I ever find respite from my past transgressions?

I find it unfortunate that all my explanatory images are broken, I wasn't aware that google killed my website.

I think it's about time I created a "Selout debunked" thread, with the hope to finally vindicate myself.

Nice. You balanced her out swimmingly.

I recommend doing away with the highlight on her right hand completely. Also, the shading on her left legs breaks the nice triangular shape of the other leg. I think top down shadows work fine alone. Side shadows don't seem to be contributing much.

The chin outline is too strong. It's out of style with the rest of the piece. I'd say go with much lighter shades and let color take care of the rest.

I can read her face in two ways. The first is that her eye is closed, and the red part are the tips of her eye lashes. The second interpretation (and the one I think you intended) is that she has rosy cheeks. Either way works, but you might adjust colors and positions if you want to avoid ambiguity.

DO NOT PANIC. YOUR EYES AND EARS ARE NOT DECEIVING YOU. THIS IS AN ACTUAL VIDEO GAME, MADE BY AN ACTUAL HUMAN PERSON.  IT WILL BE OKAY. YOU MAY EXPERIENCE A SENSATION SIMILAR TO THE WALLS OF REALITY BEING PULLED INTO A VOID OF UNFATHOMABLE DESTITUTION. THIS IS NORMAL. PLEASE CALL FOR HELP, WALK CALMLY AND QUIETY TO AN OPEN SPACE, LAY DOWN IN A FETAL POSITION AND WAIT FOR ASSISTANCE.

Also, take a look at the Preview sections on his website. Nearly every game has a feature, always dubbed "Courting Controversy", which places you in the pulse pounding scenario of publicly defending your intellectual property to the local federal magistrate. Truly, these inspirational works will some day herald a brave new world of gaming artistry upon the unwashed masses.

Hrmm... I note a distinct lack of controversy courting in The You Testament. Perhaps it's unlockable.

I much prefer this version to any of the edits. It's much more cerebral. If you keep on refining it, it could turn into something very cool.

This is disgustingly cute.

She doesn't need the two purple pixels on her chin.

Her left arm is angled outwards, which looks cute. Her right arm could angle out as well.

The purple anti-aliasing on the top of the dress is unnecessary. It could even be damaging (try changing the background to a lighter color to see what I mean).

Photoshop, Promotion, and it's ilk have a thin bar on the left of the canvas for selecting tools. All the other controls get docked to the right of the canvas. I consider that a right handed interface.

My gripes with 4 pen colors boils down to 2 issues:

1. It's foreign – If I pick up any other graphics app I can reasonably expect it to have two colors. When I saw the screenshot of the UI, I was confused. I had to read your posts for an explanation of their use, and I had to reason out how and why I would need them. All in all I found it non-obvious and non-intuitive. Not offensively so, mind you. But it still felt foreign.

2. It's a solution to a non-problem – I have never once say down in front of a pixel editor and felt the need for more pen colors. I think this mirrors the issues the Office developers faced when they sat down and made guesses about what the average user wants and doesn't want, without any actual feedback from the users. It seems like a feature that in theory sounds like it would be useful, but in practice is not useful, or is even detrimental.

My ideal workflow is one which has a quickly accessible color picker and key bindings to increment and decrement the current palette index. This makes it easy to both grab an existing color from the canvas and to move through my organized color ramps without having to mouse over to the palette. The only time I need to defer to the actual palette is when I am modifying colors or reorganizing my palette. It is of utmost importance that I can navigate about my palette while keeping my cursor, and my concentration within the canvas, not in the ancillary panels.

Have said that, if you really think 4 pen colors will be a genuine boon to pixel artists, implement it. I'll be the first to happily admit that I was wrong if it improves my art.
