Pixel Art / Re: Need some help with anatomy
« on: January 18, 2020, 12:46:53 pm »
What do you guys think about the other art styles ?
Do they use a similar skeleton ? I've seen that some people doesn't use this skeleton, they just go straight to figure (sketching a shape of leg, arms, head, body)

There are many artist that use many ways to draw their characters, besides, I prefer do a skeleton, so give him shape, add skin, cloths and the final details, I like this process and personally I don't like do other process, but I like see people's talent.

I'm not a expert in anatomy, but the bit I learnt may help you.

Your example show a large pelvis, so I assume that you try drew a woman (they have large pelvis because there is stored the baby), you actually doesn't need draw a circle, you can use a triangle, the top of pelvis is rounded, but the strutured is similar to a pyramid and move it in the same direction that you point your ribcage. What I recomend to you is keep see anatomy at general, but study some parts more deep to understand better.

After that you can give more shape to figure like I did, just forget the arms and legs, I'm still not good enough in draw they, too.

I've made some changes, I'm just confused with the back side

The leg still seems a little curve, try to make be more triangle, basically the leg have a joint on the hips and another joint on the knee where is responsible to rotate the rest of the leg. And one thing that help me a lot while I started, too. Look for big sprites where the body is not abstracted. Sprites from Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, fighting games at all where you can study anatomy, also try to learn anatomy from videos where teach anatomy like learning normal art and try to repeat it (in pixel art of course).

I recommend put the eyes on pixel down or add one more pixel for the forehead.

Pixel Art / [Feedback] Chloe Grace portrait

Hi there, I am pratice a lot face and portraits and I started doing in great canvas to get knowledge more about the face.

I saw Carrie the Strange feature the actress Chloe Grace and I decide try to make this face. I dunno, but I feel that the head is more large and I still struggle to do the cheek bone accurately, besides I can spot it easily with my eye when I look to faces, that dark lines on her left side is because I saw a photo of her 3/4 side and I notice a slope between the face and the cheek, maybe it happens because she was smiling when it was took. The highlights from right side is because (I can totally be wrong about that because I notice this after saw many light/dark in faces), but there is the cheek bone, like I said I can be totally wrong.

Hello!

This is my first try on making a portrait and making an animal (Beagle). I'm really like the result, but I still not confident with the shading, I barely use the front like spotlight, thus I don't have certain if my light/shading are correct.

I also wonder if the canvas size is too small? It's 100x100 pixels, and the character is even smaller. He doesn't utilize much space, so I found adding details really difficult.

Actually 100x100 is a big space do work with Pixel Art. Think about it. A pixel art with 32x32 you have 1024 pixels to work on it and give some details. When I begin draw pixel art I take 5 days to draw 200x200 arts. It's very big. Like 0xDB says the canvas is not small and adding details could be difficult and some knowledge about anatomy could be helpful, you can learn some about it in Proko playlist about anatomy and was very helpful for me: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtG4P3lq8RHFBeVaruf2JjyQmZJH4__Zv

I suggest you work more on reshape your character more from the sketch which 0xDB made and then try to add shading and details. At least, it's a good start.

You can add more diference between the values of colors and like armor and shield are metalic materials they reproduce reflection.

i think this could help you.

And avoid making banding, where you draw a line and add another line with diferent color on side (like I see on the neck).
