I day I just got this inspiration to make someone sitting in a chair.
So, been working on it today.
Heres a little slideshow of the progress...

My first thought viewing it was that the chair was the person's hair. Now, even knowing that it's a chair, I'm having trouble seeing it as separate from the character. Perhaps some more contrast?

Ok, I tried to separate the hair from the chair. (Hah, it rhymes! No wonder they got confused with each other!

I'd suggest either making the chair darker or changing the hair color as they still blend a bit.

for me the issue is that the chair looks soft and schmoogey. See if you can't maintain this oversoftened style you're going for while still demonstrating the clear, planar relationships held by most furniture forms.

I really don't like your new shading style. It's blurry and pillow shaded. You have to pay much more attention to light source and you need cleaner planes of light and dark if you want to make this work.

I think it was waaaay better before you put the outline.
As Gil says it's blurry, but I think the outline highlights it even more.

Ah, it is pretty blurry. :/
I'm not doing on purpose, I kind of skipped the step of picking a light source, which I guess gave it a pillow-shaded look...
Bah, well, I'll work on it some more.
I'll cut down the outline a bit too.
