when you're placing the trees, dont snap them to the grid so they're not in straight lines like the 6 in the top left corner
i cant remember if you can turn the grid off with gamemaker but you can re-size it to a 1 pixel one lol

i have to agree with turning the contrast on the grass down, it looks good, but if the player is seeing it all the time when they're playing itll get annoying after a while

awesome progress though, really like it

Wow, i really like it.

If you'd like to spice up the shading a bit more, try shifting the hue so that your shadows become a different colour, it's fun to experiment with that. On the circular roof, it seems to flat, the tiles on it need to start curving sooner if you ask me, but your window below that curves too soon, try to find a happy medium. Also, the spire at the top needs to look more cylindrical, as do the grey bits on the roof. The grey on the underneith of the right rectangular side of the house needs to come out more at the end.

Here's an edit addressing the spire, grey lining on the right and the window:

The spire looks really bad on mine but i hope it brings accross what i mean.

a new way to colour them?

you could go download the trial verison of pro motion (http://www.cosmigo.com/promotion) and use the build in function where u can select a colour that's already in the image and experiment by changing it whilst it auto updates the image, its quick and easy n really helpful

if that doesn't answer your question i dont understand what ur wanting here, could you be more specific?

hey blue, before you develope you own style it may be better to get to grips with the basics first, that is to find a tutorial go through it and end up with something at the end Clicky for linkage

if you'd like to go for it youself, do put some effort into it and spend some time on you piece, go get a reference of something you'd like to pixel and knock yourself out, google image search is always goof for references lol

wat you've got so far doesn't really resemble anything, it might be better to tell us what they are then maybe we can crit them, they're heavily pillow shaded which is a no go (pillow shading is making you the light source, so the edges get darker), if you want to pixel people and gore (the far left picture) you need to address some anatomical issues within the image

so overall, get a reference and have a go pixelling it, start small and work on a background that compliments the image, not grey.

you need to define a light source, that is where the light will be coming form. I think you've pillow shaded a lot of the trunk and branches which means the light is coming from you, try doing it from a corner or but a moon in the background and use that as a light source

the overall structure of the tree doesn't really look like a tree, the mirrored branches dont do it any justice. Unless your going for a style of your own, you might want to consider a shape more like the one in this photo:  Clicky

have u tried to get a reference? It may be a good idea to do so, google image search is always good to try

edit: link works, thanks Ryan

I kept the outline for the most part by shading it with the lightest colour available after the one by its side.

im really pleased with how its turned out actually  :)

im not sure wat u meant when u said

if the backgrounds, if it is going to be part of an atmosphere, follow a "flashback" style of simplicity, nevermind me
would you, or anyone else, mind explaining?

thanks

i changed the colours so they're more similar to Alonso's, they look more pear-like than the cyan highlights i had goin on in the old one

i also got rid of a lot of the dithering, it looks a lot less grainy or noisy if you know wat i mean:
