[Wip] HUD help

on: August 16, 2010, 03:33:43 am
Well this is like my first attempt at a hud.

The red is health

The blue is chakra.

As you may have guessed, yes I'm making a game hehe :)

I just need some help with some sort of tecture to make it not look flat >.>, any help will be appreciated

It's suppose to be rocky-ish, I'm not sure how to explain that, but like a rocky texture.

The HUD:

It seems to me as if you used an automatic noise effect on the bar fillings. If so, I'll totally advise that you stay away from that, it's better to do it by hand... with some practice you can make it look decent, and more like the way you want it. I'll make an edit sometime later since It's really late and my eyes are closing right now haha... although I warn you, what I have in mind, will stray away somewhat of the direction you're planning so far.

A quick aside, I'd work on the readability of the bars there. Use a mid-tone gray or some other color for the outlines around the red and blue bars maybe.

I started it. I noticed that most of the problems are in the design of the HUD... after taking a close look at it, I noticed that you might probably got the idea of a radio of a car... looks like it, judging by the main lineart. Well, more changes on it must be done to improve it, get that car radio idea off and the rest will fall into place. I changed the colors just to work on it.

I will work some more on it later on tonight or tomorrow *yawn*, tired, gotta go to sleep.

It's starting to look better. I will cancel my edit since you seem to be going in the right direction now.

I can't think  of what else to do with it to make it look better. Just doesn't feel "complete" to me. I'm going to work on it more maybe change it up a bit from hard denser rok, to something else, maybe something polished maybe. I'ma test different things, and post the ones  i think are good and will use.

Also, I know this is a problem, the shuriken is a bit jagged. I nevr really taught my self to AA well, so any help on that would deffinatley be great >_<

Here it is :):

I made another edit. I lightened the middle highlight on the bars, and put the mid-tone gray around them.

Here it is :P:
