I was talking to pep, and he seemed to not have any problem with that.

General Discussion / Official G_Dragon Campaign Thread

Hey all, I've decided to run for December's elections. If you have any questions, concerns, or anything else please ask and I'll reply as soon as possible.

Here is what I stand for:

-Activities- What makes an artist better? Lots and lots of practise. And face it, many people don't want to be drilled and tested for their work. So, I'll make activities that are both challenging and fun. One of the activities I would bring back is the Secret Santa since it's been very popular in the past.

-Commercial Critiquing- Not only will I look at some well known 2d games, I'll even look at how they made their effects. If you wonder how a certain image was done, I'll hopefully make it somewhat clear how they did that.

-Tutorials- Not only will the tutorials be simple, straight forward, and in depth, but it'll be interactive. Allowing you to not only try out the tutorial, but give suggestions and add to a completly in depth tutorial for people around the world to see.

About me:
I've been in Pixelation for around 3-5 years. I've seen the rise and fall of Pixelation, and I've always wanted to contribute to the growth of a wonderful community of highly creative people. I've had a bit of moderation experience with some other communities, and am willing to work to make Pixelation the best it can be.

So, Make Pixelation the best it can be. Vote for G_D.

I think Zog's math is right though. Using simple trig, you can get 26.565.

Starting with what we know. We know the horizontal and vertical of the triangle (1/2, rise/run), which is 0.5.
Then we use some trig (yay!). We are trying to figure out the hypotenuse, and we have the opposite and adjacent. Now, we try to find which trig function we need to use. SOH, CAH, TOA. Sine=Opposite/Hypotenuse, Cosine=Adjacent/Hypotenuse, Tangent=Opposite/Adjacent. Since we don't know the Hypotenuse, we use the Tangent=Opposite/Adjacent. So, tan x=y/z, tan x=0.5, x=26.565. Also, if you plug in 27 into microsoft paint while skewing an image (Using the vertical skew), it'll give you a perfect iso line.

If my math is wrong, then please tell me :P

Although you won't lower the colour count, I highly suggest you do. You don't need those many colours. Most of the shades are blending with eachother. Also, it makes it look like wasn't pixeled. For the skin, you may want to have 1 inbetween colour. And I can't really help you with the hair, because I'm not a master shader myself. But it also seems that the lightsource is dancing all over the place. Since the hair has light at the top, and the pants have light at our bottom right.

But onto the good stuff!
The character in the piece is very nice. She seems very animated and alive. The colours seem to work well with eachother, and even has a sort of digital painting feel.

Hope to see more from you!

I can tell you that the difference from the first one to the last one is a great difference, and you should be proud of yourself. But there are a few points I would like to point out.

1) Too many colours. My program tells me that you are using 803 colours, when you could probably get way with less than 256. Maybe 64ish, at tops. For example, the road uses 3 colours, when you could probably get away with one or two. Another image that uses a lot of colours is that dragon grafitii. Try pixeling it, and use the texture that you used for each brick. Which pretty much means change the colour from the brick to the dragon colour.
2) Some of the bricks are a bit too dark, maybe lighten up the darkest part just by a bit, and see what happens.
3) Shadows. You need to add shadows. Basically what you have to do is figure out where the lightsource is, then place the shadow on the opposite side of the object that has the light. That includes walls, ground, lamp posts, etc.
4) It seems that the stoplight has some perspective issues at the very top. Right now you could probably use a oval at the top. To make the perspective correct.
5) The grass seems a bit too repetitive. But since I'm not the best at grass, I could probably point you to a tutorial, or let someone else help with that :D
6) Overall, the tiles are pretty repetative. Maybe have a few tiles differ from the rest. Things like broken bricks or grass growing from them would work pretty well. Also, you could have more pepsi cans lie on the ground. Maybe clump a few and have a few on the side.

Things I like:
1) The texturing and beveling- The texturing and beveling really adds some 3dness to the brickwork. Probably works best with the barber shop.
2) I like the corner bricks at the barbershop. They kinda help get rid of some of the tiling effect.
3) The grafitii is a great touch, but the dragon one seems a bit high.
4) The objects such as streetlamps and air conditioning units are a nice touch.

As I said, the art has improved much, and with some more tweaking it will be awsome!

I may start on a second one later.

I'll post the tiles once I extract each and every one.
