I disagree. You can always get a rock to hit two birds if you throw it right but three is just having good luck.

See the diagram here:

(It's probably not exactly shaped like this if you looked at actual values, but I don't have that data and this should be close enough.)
This shows that as luminosity nears extremes, the saturation you can show decreases, meaning that black and white can be any hue because at the ends of the luminosity continuum you get no saturation. That there's no saturation results in any hue producing the same color as any other. You can shift white and black to anything, but they really don't have any standard shift because they themselves aren't hues.

I think the term is needed more to describe the slight change in hues from shadows to highlights that is present in reality as opposed to the strict variation of luminance often present in pixels. However, the term could apply to any changing of a hue--calling hue shifting the shifting of a hue isn't far from the truth.

You'll grow to have a gradiented forehead? That's terrible.

Just kidding. But nonetheless, fix that shading and think about it like part of a sphere.

The mouth is nice for a line, but you could add some shadows a pixel or two above and below it to suggest lips.

The nose is a bit wide, maybe move the sides in 1 pixel each. Also antialias the shadows of the sides to cure their jaggies.

The face overall is a bit misshapen. I'm really pretty horrible with anatomy, but it might be that the forehead is so short and flat.

Use some of your greys and skintones to antialias the eyes and eyebrows., and add some ears while you're at it.

Good luck on this!

The left eye's pupil is better now, a lot smoother. The other eye's is bothering me a little though. In the previous version it was roughed out in a dark brown and thet added to the depth, I think. Try replacing the black there with your second-darkest shade.

There seems to be a slight form issue on the left cheek: in the ref it keeps the highlights or midtones closer towards the lip than in your pixel.

The nose seems to have some jpegging from the camera and that's showing in the horizontal line there. Unfortunately that's also present in your art.

Overall I like this and it's got some really nice elements such as the eyelashes and general form. But you might need to add a whole 'nother set of colors for the lips. Luckily those could also accent the skin under the eyes. One final thing is that it could use some more highlights, right now it has a bit patch of flat color on the nose that looks very unfinished.

Typefastfastfast!

It's hard to tell what things are. Generally it's a bad sign if you need any words to get the viewer to understand what's in the picture. Try blocking in colors and shading from there while trying not to obscure the form of things. WIth that technique, those hills in the background could be mighty mountains instead of nondescript collections of 1-2 touching pixels and the thing in the top-rightish bit of the sky (a cloud?) could be an eerie mist (might be a bit hard to pull off in 2 colors though. Scratch that could bit then). Composition-wise, there could use to be some more space around the moon so it's not in the very corner.

The still ones look pretty good but all of them lack knees and feet, even though the girl has shoes on. The walk cycle looks a bit wonky, I think due to the fact that the legs just shorten and get dark spots. Try drawing on some knees and feet (for these you could maybe just shrink the ankles to suggest them) so it makes more sense to the viewer. The top of the head could use some shading IMO, though it could work without it.

Good palettes on all, but the blue is a bit too unsaturated I think. Bump that up just a little bit.

'This Way' looks interesting, but I think the random shading of the text could use more thought. The creature and candle look very nice, though, aside from the fact that the creature's nose is a mix of two shading styles.

My favorite part of 'Civil War' the hat, but the face is well-done as well. However, I tihnk the purple is a bit of a jump from the next skin tone, maybe look at making the ramp smoother. The lip color sticks out some and I think you could do without and save yourself a color. If you keep it, change the hue and/or saturation so it looks less out of place.

The Jazzalisk is interesting, but here, too, your ramp has a bit of an incongruity. Try a lighter color where you have the red shadow tone and see how that looks.

Given the shading style, I think the middle '? ? ?' looks the best. It looks embossed onto the BG and that fits how it's shaded.

Good luck and keep pixelling!

Is everyone ditching their *.ensellitis.com sites? lol

I like the overall style and the buildings are great, but the protagonist's chest looks a bit odd. Currently it looks a bit... dare I say it? pillowshaded. Your highlights seem to be there just to be there, not to show form.

The sky looks good, especially like the skyline BG, but the collection of stars around the moon isn't realistic. If anything the moon would make it harder to see the nearby stars, so kill that effect.

One more area I see needs fixing is the score text. up until the 6, all the lines are 2px thick, then the horizontal ones go thin for the 6 and 2. Add some consistency there and it'll look real nice.

It's also very usefiul with colored lightsources, where the lightsource's color is shown most in highlights and the object's actual color is prevalent in the midtones.
